Diary of a clinical trial participant - Dose 3 RETURN OF THE COMFY CHAIR! I get that they’re more expensive, harder to move, and likely a bigger hassle to clean but when you’re asking folks to: ➡️ miss work ➡️ pee in a cup ➡️ get stuck with a needle *and* ➡️ hang around for thirty minutes Offering a super comfortable place to sit really does help make it feel like you’re a special treasured guest instead of a medical guinea pig 😍. We're celebrating our advanced practice clinicians this week. Meet Colin Williams, a pharmacist clinician with our Complete Care Program. Q: What drives your passion for practicing medicine as an APC? A: We have an opportunity to make a real difference in our patients' lives. Whether it's sharing our knowledge or advocating for them, or sometimes simply listening - what we do can really help people, and that's a great feeling! Q: What is the number one question you are asked as an APC in your specialty? A: My diabetic patients frequently ask, “what can I eat?" Maintaining a healthy diet can be difficult for many people but when you throw in extra parameters like carb counting or salt restriction it can be a real challenge. Q: What personal strengths do you feel you bring to your current role? A: I think it's enthusiasm and not being afraid to try new things! Q: What's the best advice you've ever received? A: You should treat everyone the way you'd like to be treated. Q: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know? A: My go-to karaoke song is “Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. Q: What do you like to do outside of work? A: I'm probably up for trying just about anything! But most of all I love to cook, read, and spend time with my family.

This Saturday morning, around 7:45 AM, I had one of those serendipitous moments that remind me of how connected our work and paths can be. Earlier this week, I had communicated with Dina Eisenberg JD EMBA CO-OP™ , a fellow ombuds, neither of us knowing that just a few days later, we’d randomly run into each other at the same conference center in Atlanta - me serving as the conference ombuds for a healthcare scientific research symposium focused on curing spinal cord injuries, and Dina attending a different healthcare-related conference on the same floor, also representing the field of Ombuds work. As I was walking by this morning, I spotted someone sitting there and hesitantly said, “Dina, is that you?” thinking, surely this can’t be Dina, who doesn’t even live in Atlanta. “That would be super special,” I thought to myself. Well, it was super special - it was Dina indeed! Two completely separate events, yet us both advancing the impactful work of ombuds in healthcare. What felt like a random encounter was anything but. I’ve learned that nothing is ever truly random or a coincidence- this was a divine message with a purpose, even if it hasn’t yet been revealed. Well I’m here to tell you that participating in clinical trials is not frightening at all. Actually, despite contrary beliefs, being in a clinical trial can be extremely beneficial and most times, life saving! Imagine having the opportunity to get access to new innovative therapies that are not yet available to the public. Or even receiving potential treatment for an ailment that currently has no cure or treatment available. The choice is always yours, but you or a loved one could be missing out on this potential healthcare advantage. Is it a trick or a treat? 🍭🍬🍫 How do you decide if a clinical trial is right for you or your loved one? 🤔 🎃Get educated about clinical trials 🎃Talk with you healthcare provider about your interest in clinical trials 🎃Find clinics or centers in your area that specialize in clinical trials.
