The California Water Plan contains a massive wave of information, so DWR is summarizing the highlights for you in smaller “splashes”! 💦Today, we’re tackling understanding and addressing equity in the management of California’s water resources. Many Californians experience social, economic, and health disadvantages based on race, gender, age, income level, or any combination of those. When water management decisions don’t account for this reality, it can severely hurt a community. Inequities show up in accessing water, water quality, preparing for climate change impacts like flooding or drought, and being able to afford water. The California Water Plan encourages continued outreach and engagement with frontline communities, Tribes, and non-governmental organizations to inform future Water Plan updates and invest in the next generation of community water leaders and operators. The River Liffey currently supplies 85% of the water for the Greater Dublin Area. Our dependence on this single source leaves the region exposed to risks of drought and contamination. In addition to this, increasing demands fuelled from housing needs and climate change means that by 2044, our water demand is projected to rise by 34%. The GDA’s growing water supply deficit is not sustainable - we need a new source of water along with better wastewater treatment systems. If investment in water and wastewater treatment is not made urgently, the city will be without water within a decade. 🚰Modernizing California's water infrastructure is crucial for a sustainable future. The State Water Project is essential for supplying water to millions of Californians and vast farmlands. Upgrading our infrastructure, like the Delta Conveyance Project, will adapt to climate-driven weather extremes, protect against supply disruptions from earthquakes, and ensure long-term stability. This modernization adds flexibility and reliability to our water supply system, safeguarding health, safety, and economic prosperity. RCG's water issues services, with over 25 years of experience, are at the forefront of advocating for and implementing these vital projects. By 2070, the population of Texas is expected to nearly double, with the demand for water increasing by 17%. It is estimated that in the next 50 years four out of five Texans could potentially face a water shortage in their cities. This is why it is crucial that we stay diligent about conserving and protecting our most precious natural resource, water. The California Water Plan contains a massive wave of information, so DWR is summarizing the highlights for you in smaller “splashes”! 💦 Today, we’re tackling supporting and learning from Tribal water and resource management practices. While California Native American Tribes have a long history of sustainable water and resource management practices, Tribal communities face water management challenges related to water rights, infrastructure development, engagement, and Tribal direct funding. To address these challenges and learn from Tribal water management practices, we are going to strengthen partnerships with California Native American Tribes and ensure that Tribes are included in planning and water resources decision-making processes. This includes collaborating with Tribes to incorporate Indigenous knowledge into California water policy, planning, and projects, and further understanding Tribal water quality, ecosystems, and access to water, to support Tribal lifeways including subsistence and cultural practices. Today, on the 10th anniversary of #ImagineADayWithoutWater, the Pacific Institute joins the US Water Alliance’s The Value of Water Campaign in reflecting on a decade of progress and the ongoing challenges in securing equitable water access. As part of this campaign, we are proud to share our third blog in the series, written in collaboration with CIS and UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation which highlights the potential of water efficiency and conservation to support utility affordability across the United States. This project emphasizes the need for innovative approaches to address affordability through efficiency and cross-sector partnerships, such as with community-based organizations, government, and utilities to ensure low-income households are part of the solution. Co-authored by Morgan Shimabuku, Christine Curtis, Heather Cooley, Grace Harrison, Greg Pierce, and Sri Vedachalam, some highlights from the blog include: 💧 Reducing the need for costly infrastructure through long-term water efficiency and conservation efforts 💧 Developing inclusive programs for renters and apartment dwellers 💧 Overcoming challenges in reaching customers in need of support through collaboration Read the full blog: https://lnkd.in/gf7BBMuS #ImagineADayWithoutWater #MyDropInTheBucket #WaterEfficiency #WaterAffordability
