What people may not realize is that the FBI has no legislative charter. It runs largely on norms, established within the Bureau itself and the Justice Department. Those can be rescinded and changed by the people in charge. That means that FBI Directors are, more than most agency heads, public fiduciaries and stewards for the rule of law. Interpol says insufficient cyber hygiene in Africa continues to undermine cyber resilience across the continent as many African organisations and individuals still show low levels of preparedness against cyberattacks. In the latest African Cyberthreat Assessment Report, the International criminal police organisation says the continent recorded the highest average growth in cybercrime in the world in 2023, with a 23 % increase in the average number of weekly cyberattacks per organisation.
