Dear Pacifica Community, Once again, we find ourselves facing the devastating reality of wildfires in Southern California—fires that have caused deep loss, displacement, and heartbreak for so many in the Los Angeles region. Governor Newsom’s declaration of a State of Emergency is helping to mobilize important resources, but it is the care we show one another and the strength of communities that truly reminds us we are not alone. The Pacifica community carries a deep understanding of the pain these events bring. Many of our Pacifica members—students, faculty, staff, and alumni—live, work, and have connections to the areas now impacted by these fires. We have already begun to hear heartbreaking stories of homes lost, families affected, and lives disrupted. Our thoughts and hearts are with them and with everyone facing this unimaginable challenge. For those affected by or concerned about the fires, we've created a Los Angeles Wildfires Information & Resource Page: https://loom.ly/hFUZ-qQ This page will be updated as more information and support opportunities are developed and available. Please visit the page for updates on campus status and safety, academic continuity and options, mental health support, fire updates, and relief effort resources and involvement. ***YOUR SAFETY AND WELL-BEING ARE OUR TOP PRIORITIES. If you are affected by the fire, please reach out to your Program Chair, Supervisor, or Campus Safety as soon as you are able.*** With heartfelt care and hope, Dr. Leonie H. Mattison President & CEO

The destructive fire situation in California is heartbreaking on so many levels. Loss of life. Loss of homes and memories. Loss of wildlife. Loss of many natural wonders. Loss of history. Loss of childhoods and hometowns. And, perhaps the greatest loss - the loss of empathy. The amount of people I have read/heard who are not that torn up because "a bunch of rich people" lost things, is a stark reminder of where we find ourselves as a global community - where somehow, empathy and compassion become selective and is based on things like socio-economic status, demographic characteristics and politics and policy. Here's hoping that we find a way back to a state where empathy does not have to be "earned" but is instead, a natural state, and where help is offered not because we think someone deserves it or because we like them and not someone else, but instead, is inherent in how we view the world and those around us. Empathy is empathy, and there should be no "eligibility criteria." #livealoha #LAfires #empathy

A couple of commonly believed Protection facts that aren't actually true and and 7 general fun ones for your Monday reading 🤔 1. Protection policies don't pay out... in 2023, Scottish Widows paid out over 98% of all claims 2. You don't need protection until you're older...anyone who has financial responsibility can benefit from protection . It doesn’t matter what age you are, if you become ill or injured, or pass away unexpectedly, your family may struggle financially as a result. Having adequate protection in place can offer some security and peace of mind for both you and your loved ones. 3. Protection is too expensive...you can absolutely find affordable protection policies. Policies can be more budget-friendly than you think. Plus, taking out protection earlier in life, when premiums are lower, can result in significant cost savings over time. Scottish Widows Adviser https://lnkd.in/eNPkAR89
