#Platinum-based #hydrogenfuel cells are facilitating off grid recharging solutions for #BatteryElectricVehicles | Earlier this year a public-private-partnership, debuted its #HydrogenFuel cell-powered off-grid supercharger for battery electric vehicles at a service station in #China. The supercharger, which deploys platinum-based proton exchange membrane fuel cell technology, can fully recharge a BEV in only ten minutes, delivering up to 480 kW of electricity in a footprint that is less than 4 sqm. The entire charging system can be placed almost anywhere without additional construction or grid connection requirements, meaning that location can be selected by demand density, rather than by electrical connectivity or high-power availability. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that by 2040 electricity demand for transportation will grow by more than one-third and there is no doubt that BEV market growth and the consequent need for recharging is generating demand for reliable power in more places. In the US, for example, there will be an estimated 48 million BEVs on the road by 2030, which will have significant consequences for electrical-grid capacity and delivery SOURCE World Platinum Investment Council - WPIC®

https://lnkd.in/e8keCvqt Nantes (France) and Munich (Germany), 17 October 2024 – 7.30 am – Lhyfe (EURONEXT: LHYFE), a world pioneer in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, and KEYOU, a recognised technology leader in the development of hydrogen combustion engines, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop hydrogen mobility in Germany and Europe. Lhyfe is currently building its largest production facility in Schwäbisch Gmünd near Stuttgart, Germany. The plant, which is expected to be installed by the end of the year, will be capable of producing up to 4 tonnes of green hydrogen per day (10 MW installed capacity). Lhyfe has secured the supply of green electricity for this site by signing a long-term contract for the supply of renewable electricity (corporate PPA) with EDP Renewables, for a period of 15 years. Lhyfe also announced in early September that the company will supply four filling stations operated by H2 MOBILITY Deutschland in Germany over a five-year period, starting in 2025. The first hydrogen deliveries will supply four filling stations, including two in Baden-Württemberg (Mannheim and Heidelberg). At the end of 2023, Lhyfe had announced that its green hydrogen will also be used to power the “H2-Aspen” industrial park and a JET H2 hydrogen filling station, now called MINT. KEYOU is a recognized technology leader in the development of hydrogen combustion engines. The company is developing both a conversion technology, to convert existing diesel trucks into hydrogen vehicles that meet the zero-CO2 requirements of the EU heavy-duty vehicle legislation, and a “Hydrogen Mobility as a Service” approach, with a full range of services (vehicle and engine conversion, service and maintenance package, insurance and, if required, the fuel). The two partners have announced that they have signed an agreement to develop hydrogen mobility in Germany and Europe, with an initial focus on the Baden-Württemberg region. KEYOU gives priority to regions capable of fueling its vehicles with green hydrogen.

Hydrogen power used to charge BEVs in military trial Zero emissions energy firm GeoPura and the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) have completed a landmark hydrogen power trial which saw battery-electric vehicles (BEV) charged with hydrogen power. The trial used green hydrogen powered generators (HPU) at five MOD locations to rapidly charge BEVs on site. While this energy solution is being used in the commercial environment, this is the first military application of the technology, marking a significant milestone in advancing alternative energy solutions for the defence sector. Critical to the success of the trial was the deployment of GeoPura HPUs, which offer a highly reliable, environmentally friendly source of power to support the limitless scaling of rapid electric vehicle (EV) fleet charging infrastructure. As the adoption of BEVs increases, insufficient grid capacity can impede expanding recharging needs, with the firm believing that HPUs removes these limitations – supplementing available grid power, or operating entirely off grid, enabling the MOD to meet expanding EV charging needs.
