Great insights Jo Clubb This very much reinforces the utility of data-informed assessments in our clinical practice. Data certainly has a role in return to sport decisions with Achilles tendinopathy. Especially when we consider the incredibly high recurrence & re-injury rates in active cohorts. Much of this is fuelled by; - Returning to activities too soon. - Inadequate rehabilitation addressing functional deficits. - Focusing on metrics that measure disability and/pain, and not measures of functional capacity relating to higher load activities (eg stretch shorten cycle function & running). Subjective information is VERY important, however much of the subjective information often only allows us to be reactive to changes in injury status, not proactive.
