What kind of teams should business and political leaders seek to create? Here’s a sketch: “Leaders are fully committed to empowering organisation members. There is a shared focus on excellence. Communication is relatively unrestrictive throughout. The organisation is in a constant state of evolution guided by a common vision. People prize highly their identity with the organisation, and there are substantial opportunities for self actualisation.” And here’s a guide to doing it through mastery of the basics of leadership, applying humility and fierce resolve, and re-establishing trust: https://lnkd.in/eNBHrFH9

Some business owners forget one of the golden rules of leadership; Always treat people with respect on the way out and leave the door open. And then years later they wonder why their best people never come back. ‘They’re a traitor, how could they leave? What have they done to us’ All pointless rhetoric. Guess what? Good people leave? It’s normal. It’s part of growing as a business person. Careers evolve. Don’t get in the way. Give people space. But if you slam the door shut, they aren’t coming back. This is why I’m so pleased to welcome back Joe Duff . He worked with us for four years and then wanted to leave to try something new. He wanted to push himself and develop. But he’s come back? Why? Because he built relationships here and we ended on good terms. We respect each other. Great leaders know that departures are not betrayals. If you focus on building the right sort of company then good people will find their way back! Would you hire someone back after they left?

Servant Leadership: A Legacy of Service and Impact Leadership is often mistaken for authority, but true leadership is rooted in service to others. As we reflect on the remarkable life of former President Jimmy Carter, we are reminded of the profound impact of servant leadership. Carter, a naval officer turned statesman, exemplified the values of humility, selflessness, and dedication, inspiring leaders across the globe to prioritize the well-being of those they serve. In both the military and corporate arenas, the principles of servant leadership resonate deeply. Military leaders understand that their primary responsibility is to their people—ensuring their safety, growth, and success. Similarly, CEOs and organizational leaders bear the duty to uplift their teams, create opportunities for development, and foster environments of trust and collaboration. These universal values of leadership—integrity, accountability, and empathy—are not just ideals but actionable commitments that build stronger teams and communities. President Carter's legacy teaches us that leadership is not about titles or personal accolades but about the positive difference we make in the lives of others. Whether it’s through supporting a struggling team member, making ethical decisions, or dedicating time to serve those in need, the essence of leadership lies in placing others first. As leaders, let us honor Carter’s legacy by embodying these principles, cultivating a culture of service, and leading with purpose, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the greater good.

Suicide Awareness Month I often mention when I am conducting leadership seminars that I can’t go anywhere month without hearing about another suicide. August ended with another story of a person taking their own life and this time it was someone that I knew. I don’t have the answer to this problem. I don’t think anyone does. All we can do is raise the awareness of suicide up and ask leaders to do all they can to be the difference. It might not save all but it will definitely save some! #IntrusiveLeadership #TheWayYouLeadMatters https://lnkd.in/eDv-72aW
