Would Nelson Mandela have been identified as “extra-ordinary” if there wasn’t oppression against his people, initially, and himself ultimately? So far, past African leaders are celebrated mainly for their victories over oppression from the west. Here’s the case in our current dispensation, Africans have independence yet their leaders are committing same crimes against their own. Reference to the repeated coup d’etats both in the past and recent occurrences in Baukina Faso, Niger, Mali etc. Why is it common in Africa? I believe the sentiments of Nelson Mandela can be best realized if there is intentional effort to address neocolonialism at all levels of politics and diplomacy. We might just be accommodating the same crimes as stronger legal frameworks have been built to protect same. Must we be worrying about having another Nelson Mandela or we should be interested in discovering more inventors and entrepreneurs? We might be building a better world for all if international trade partnerships are streamlined to reflect principles highlighted in the SDGs. This will essentially reflect the spirit of Nelson Mandela which we celebrate today. Long live our pacesetters! Long live Democracy! Thursday is Nelson Mandela International Day, an opportunity to honour Madiba's commitment to freedom, justice and equality. We commemorate his journey from prisoner to President of South Africa, and the triumph of an extraordinary individual against the forces of hate, ignorance and fear. "We hold it as an inviolable principle that racism must be opposed by all the means that humanity has at its disposal,” Mandela said during the Special Committee Against Apartheid in the UN General Assembly Hall in June 1990. He exemplified the power of courage, reconciliation and forgiveness to overcome the injustice of racial discrimination. “Nelson Mandela showed us the extraordinary difference one person can make in building a better world,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “Let’s honour Madiba’s legacy and turn our hands towards building a better world for all.” https://lnkd.in/ggZ_AXG

🌟 Honouring Nelson Mandela on Mandela Day! 🌟 Every year on July 18th, we celebrate International Nelson Mandela Day, a tribute to the iconic South African leader's remarkable life and enduring legacy. Mandela’s words of wisdom continue to inspire us. Here are some of his best quotes: 🌟 Be passionate: “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.” 🌟 Nothing’s impossible: “It always seems impossible, until it is done.” 🌟 Lead from the back: “Let others believe they are in front.” 🌟 Exercise: “I have always believed exercise is a key not only to physical health but to peace of mind.” 🌟 Make a difference: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” 🌟 Be optimistic: “I am fundamentally an optimist. Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.” 🌟 Learn and teach: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” 🌟 Make mistakes: "Do not judge me by my successes; judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again." Let’s honour Madiba’s legacy by taking action against poverty, promoting equality, and making a positive impact. 🌍🤝 #MandelaDay2024 #ItIsInOurHands 🌱🌿

One of my favorite leadership articles, and also an HBR classic, is "Seven Transformations of Leadership" by David Rooke and William R. Torbert, published by Harvard Business Review. The article compellingly argues that leaders are made, not born, and that their development is crucial for driving organizational change. In their insightful piece, Rooke and Torbert define seven leadership styles based on leaders' action logics—ranging from below-average corporate performance to those who consistently innovate and successfully transform their organizations. The pinnacle of these profiles, named the "Alchemist," is rare (almost 1%), and it stands out because of its exceptional qualities. As the authors describe, Alchemists have the unique ability to renew or even reinvent themselves and their organizations in historically significant ways. They possess an extraordinary capacity to handle multiple situations simultaneously at various levels, communicate with both kings and commoners, and balance immediate priorities without losing sight of long-term goals. Nelson Mandela exemplifies this Alchemist action logic—fascinating, isn't it? On this Nelson Mandela International Day, we are reminded of the profound impact one person can have on the world through humility, empathy, and unwavering dedication to justice. Mandela's legacy is a testament to the power of servant leadership—putting others first, listening deeply, and acting with integrity. As we reflect on his life and contributions, let us strive to embody the values he championed. Whether in our professional roles or personal lives, we can all make a difference by leading with compassion, courage, and a commitment to serving others. Let’s honor Mandela’s memory by continuing his work towards a more just and equitable world. Every small act of kindness and leadership rooted in service can ripple out to create meaningful change. #NelsonMandelaDay #ServantLeadership #Inspiration #EmpathyInAction #LeadershipMatters #BeTheChange
