Talk about motivating! Sarah Katherine Sisk
Last night, I had the immense honor of attending the Sunset Parade, at the Marine Corps Memorial, in honor of Senator Ted Budd (R-NC). The Marine Corps’ sunset and evening parades are always beautiful, but I found myself a bit emotional watching last night. Last night, Kayla Haas served as Adjutant of the parade. For those unaware, it is incredibly rare to see a woman in the parade. It’s even more rare to see them leading it, as Adjutant. For generations, little girls saw Marines and had to question whether they could hold their own among the ranks of men. Sure, they could aspire to become a United States Marine, but they didn’t have a visual representation of what they were striving to become - a role model or a hero, if you will. Now, little girls across the country have the chance to SEE that they, too, can become United States Marines. It’s no longer simply a dream. It’s clear as day - they can break through ceilings, they can blaze new trails, and they can lead United States Marines. She did that. #marinecorps #marines #semperfidelis #betheone #washingtondc

United States Marine Corps USMC Scout Sniper Association USMC Special Operations Marine Scout Sniper Heritage Foundation Recon & Sniper Foundation Rule 12. Have a diverse circle: Surround yourself with people you don’t always agree with. Being constantly surrounded by people who see the world the same way you do is intellectual suicide. Knowledge is about perspective....the more perspectives you have, the deeper your knowledge will be. Listen to everyone’s ideas even if they seem stupid or backward and try to understand where they are coming from and how they arrived at their conclusion. You don’t need to agree with their thoughts, but you should ALWAYS attempt to see the world through their eyes. Perspective is the most fundamental component of knowledge and it is a vital aspect of leadership. #recon #sniper #sarc #reconMAN #scoutsniper #specialamphibiousreconnaissancecorpsman TVC Warrior Rescue (501c3 Nonprofit)

Bill, your reflection beautifully encapsulates the profound impact of President Jimmy Carter’s life, highlighting not only his presidential legacy but also the incredible work he undertook after leaving office. President Carter's contributions—spanning peace negotiations, Habitat for Humanity, and his unwavering commitment to global health through The Carter Center—demonstrate a life dedicated to service that transcends the political sphere. It is indeed rare to see someone embody such a deep sense of purpose, humility, and faith, from his time in the U.S. Naval Academy and Georgia Tech to his years of diplomacy and humanitarian efforts. His post-presidency work, as you’ve pointed out, is a testament to his belief in life-long service. By focusing on global issues and providing solutions where others saw only challenges, he has set an inspiring example for leaders of all generations. What stands out most in your reflection is the reminder that leadership does not cease with office, and that true greatness is found in one’s continued commitment to the common good. President Carter’s enduring legacy is a powerful reminder that our greatest contributions may often come after we have stepped out of the spotlight. May his life continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps to lead with purpose, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the world’s most pressing needs. Rest in peace, President Carter. Your example will continue to guide us all.

President Jimmy Carter: A 100 Years of a LIfe Well Lived From Georgia Tech and U.S. Naval Academy to the White House and then to a new life of service, Jimmy Carter did it all. Although he only served one term as President, he did a lot of very important things. His 44 years of his post-Presidency will mark him as our greatest life after the White House. His work in peace negotiations, with Habitat for Humanity, and the Carter Center were just a few of his signal accomplishments. Jimmy Carter was a great human being, a man of faith, and a person deeply committed to his wife Rosalyn and his family. May he rest in peace.

James C. Collins called this "The Stockdale Paradox," after Admiral James Stockdale. Stockdale was a United States Navy aviator who was shot down during the Vietnam war, on September 9, 1965. He was held as a Prisoner of War (P.O.W.) in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" until his release in 1973. When Collins asked Stockdale about the P.O.W.s who didn't survive, Stockdale replied: "Oh, that's easy, the optimists. Oh, they were the ones who said, 'We're going to be out by Christmas.' And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then they'd say, 'We're going to be out by Easter.' And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart. This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be." The key takeaway from the Stockdale Paradox is that maintaining faith and hope is crucial, but it must be coupled with a clear-eyed assessment of the current situation and a willingness to confront and adapt to the harsh realities as they are. This balanced approach can help individuals and organizations navigate through adversity with resilience and determination. #leadershipdevelopment #constructionleadership #personalgrowth

I find the Marine Corps Institute so fascinating as a bastion of the Progressive strain of U.S. history. Here's a page it featured in May 1942 in Leatherneck magazine. Note the bottom-left corner quote: "I'm not letting the Japs alter my study plans. I believe I can take care of both the Japs and Arithmetic." As we approach Memorial Day weekend, a time of reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices of our service members, I wanted to highlight an important lesson from USMC Major General Oliver Smith. In the heat of the Chosin Reservoir battle, General Smith famously declared, 'Retreat hell! We are attacking in another direction.' This perspective exemplifies not just military acumen but a powerful mindset and strategic resilience as well. When faced with unexpected challenges, having the courage and adaptability to pivot cannot be overstated. Embracing a nimble, growth mindset allows us to see beyond immediate setbacks. Like General Smith, we’re not backing down; we’re boldly charting a new path in a direction that was not part of the original plan. This approach keeps us agile, prepared, and always moving forward, turning potential defeats into strategic opportunities for advancement. This Memorial Day, please take some time to reflect on the lessons of being adaptable, resilient, and forward-thinking that we can learn from those who served and sacrificed. #memorialday #honorthefallen #nimble #growthmindset #veteran #reflection #resilience #grit

The Calvert Task Group’s mission is to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, the Navy and Marine Corps and the United States Naval Academy. We affirm the Navy’s traditional values of honor, courage and commitment and that are now under threat. We represent mostly Annapolis graduates, almost all of whom are current, former, or retired naval officers representing countless of years of Naval service. We reject the dangerous politicization of our armed forces. We believe our military must be a meritocracy and eliminate the influence of divisive ideologies and identity politics. We are current, former, or retired naval officers representing thousands of years of Naval service. We affirm the Navy’s traditional values of honor, courage and commitment and we believe those are under threat. We have observed with increasing alarm the dangerous politicization of our armed forces through the promotion of the divisive ideology of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. While sounding good, right, and politically correct, these carefully selected words are deceptive and destructive in nature when applied to social constructs that demand merit-based selection and exceptional leadership in potential life and death situations. We believe in equal opportunity and in merit advancement. These two factors are critical to unit cohesion, morale, and effectiveness. We believe the military, above all other walks of life, must operate under those principles. The Calvert Task Group was formed in 2021 as an association of U.S. Naval Academy alumni, led by members of the class of 1969. Our members believe that American Service Academies are exceptional institutions for developing future leaders prepared to assume the highest responsibilities of command citizenship and government. Our class motto – “Non Sibi” or “Not Self” – appears in the crest inscribed on our class rings and is a common bond that has molded our lives for more than half a century. We understand that if we are not part of the solution, we are part of the problem. We are committed. We are open to all Naval Academy graduates and also welcome others who agree with and are willing to support our cause. The Calvert Task Group (CTG) represents veterans and service academy alumni, most of whom are combat experienced. We have personally witnessed the unique, “color and gender blind” culture of our fellow warriors, necessary to prevail on the battlefield.
