Introduction to The Kings Award of Voluntary Service Wednesday 21 August 10:00 - 11:00 This informal workshop aims to widen the understanding and support applications for the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS), which is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK. Why will this event be helpful to me? This informal webinar sets out the process and information surrounding nominating an organisation for the Kings Award for Voluntary Service. It will give you an idea of how to process your nomination and what else you would need to do, plus some helpful hints on why others have not been successful. This is followed by questions and answers. What outcomes can you expect to achieve if you attend this session? You will leave the webinar with a better idea of what is important in the nomination and whether that group should be nominated. Who should attend this training? Nominations have to come from outside the organisation; however, groups can encourage others to put them forward, knowing the process. Link to book: https://buff.ly/466PjCw Support Cambridgeshire

We are now recruiting for The Prince's Trust Team Programme starting in September! What is the Team programme? - Team programme is a 12-week personal development course that aims to support young people to overcome barriers that affect their opportunity of gaining and sustaining employment, education and training. The programme includes a week residential, 2-week work experience placement, a community project, CV and application form workshops, First Aid and Food Hygiene training. Young people on the programme will build skills that will empower them and put them in the best possible position to apply and gain work, such as; communication, teamwork, leadership, organisation and much more. Young people will also work towards a nationally recognised Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills. They will also benefit from additional support from one of our amazing IAF Mentors to ensure that when the programme ends, the support does not. Who is the programme for? - The programme is for unemployed young people between the ages of 16 and 26. There are no exceptions based on backgrounds or barriers. How much does it cost? - Nothing - the programme is free of charge and public transport costs are reimbursed. Where is the programme? – St John’s Centre, St John’s Street, Mansfield When do the programmes start? – 16th September 2024. We can accept people at any point before or during the first week of a programme. What do our young people say about the programme? “Princes Trust was the best thing I’ve ever done. I was in a bad rut and they helped me get out of it.” “I had problems with talking to people for ten years. They put me at ease and very fast, I could talk in the group. This was unreal for me.” “They help people to be more respectful and communicate better. I have even learned some signing because someone in the group is deaf.” How do I make a referral to the team programme? - Please contact, Jaye Crew, QTLP and Teaching Delivery Manager, on 07932 649756. If you require any further information, or would like one of my colleagues to come and speak to any members of staff or interested young people, then please do not hesitate to get in touch. #Youthoutreach #PrincesTrust #InspireAndAchieve #TeamProgramme

Three months into the all new North Western Area Command Training Plan and the benefits of our totally new approach to training are big. Gone are the six separate District and Area schedules. There is now one schedule. Gone are the six separate nomination processes. There is now one form and one process which all stakeholders have eyes on. Gone is the assumption that volunteers won’t travel to train outside their own District. A significant portion of volunteer nominees so far this year are crossing lines on the map to attend training when and where it suits them. The myth that training has to always be run on nights and weekends for volunteers is busted. Several specialist courses we’ve already delivered have been held during weekdays in response to volunteer demand. It’s amazing what can happen when you stop assuming you know what people want and actually ask them what they’d like. This has also allowed us to bring together both staff and volunteers in the same courses. The benefit of that for better working relationships is obvious. The Group Leader course currently underway in Tamworth is a great example. We have a combination of both staff and volunteer trainers from the Area Office and three of our five Districts. We have both staff and volunteer participants from across our Area and beyond and it’s also pleasing to see female participation increased with 25% of candidates in this course being women compared to many years where I’ve seen none. We kicked over a lot of beehives making these changes but it’s been worth it.
