Massachusetts children's public health hospital to relocate, 225 jobs affected: The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has shared plans to close the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children in Canton, Mass., and move its programs to the Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield, Mass. http://dlvr.it/THWHGL

At Unlock Drama, we harness the power of applied theatre to address substance misuse, a critical issue within both the criminal justice system and community settings. Through our innovative theatre-based workshops, we dive deep into the triggers, consequences, and broader societal impacts of substance misuse. Our approach is highly interactive, allowing participants to gain powerful insights into their behaviors while developing key life skills such as communication, empathy, and teamwork. MRFF 2024: “Promoting Safer Families: Strengthening primary care to sustainably address domestic and family violence”   We are proud to announce we will be leading this world-first trial on generating evidence for DFV women victim-survivor's outcomes from a primary care system intervention.     Funded through the Medical Research Future Fund Primary Health Care Grant we will evaluate the impact on women’s mental health and sense of safety from implementing novel interventions in general practice (including Medicare item for family safety assessment planning, clinical decision tool for GPs and peer care navigator to support affected women) #DFV #research #primarycare #generalpractice

New in Health Services Research from Daniel A Asfaw, Megan Price, Kristina Carvalho, MSW, Steve Pizer, and me: We examined over 3 million specialty care referrals in the VA to evaluate the impact of the VA's 2019 Referral Coordination Initiative on community care referrals and waiting times. We did not observe an effect of the RCI on waiting times or community care referral rates. From next Tuesday January 21, at least 205 NSW staff specialists will start resigning in despair because of the inaction of the Government on the recruitment and retention crisis which Government has known about for years. Chris Minns, Daniel Mookhey, Rose Jackson, and Ryan Park are preparing to demolish what remains of a system allowed to atrophy by Governments over decades, and will throw people with mental illness under a bus in 2025 with no plan to fix it. This is a collective loss of over 3000 years of specialist medical experience, which will result in the collapse of the mental health care system, and untold flow on effects to all areas of health care, child protection, the judicial system and beyond. Not only will there be immediate impacts, this will destroy the training pipeline for future NSW psychiatrists once the state's hospitals lose their accreditation to train new specialists for a generation. Minns, Park and Jackson will be remembered for their callous destruction of the health system, starting with mental health. NSW can't afford not to solve this #NSWMentalHealthCrisis.
