MotorPeople&more! ■ Darren Cooper, Managing Director at Peter Cooper Motor Group From your first car to your dream car | Owner of myTrustedElectrical.co.uk ■ Darren Cooper: " If you asked a ten-year-old me what I wanted to be when I grew up, the answer would have been simple: "I want to work with Dad." My father, Peter, started what became the Peter Cooper Motor Group, and like many family businesses, it became part of our daily lives." ■ Darren Cooper: "My holiday job was washing cars, and by weekends I was out there again, sleeves rolled up, cleaning the courtesy cars and anything else that was needed…….probably missing a spot or two. Those weekends turned into summer holiday jobs, and eventually, into a full-time career." ■ Darren Cooper: " After university, I stepped into the business and made sure that over the first few years, I had worked in nearly every role in the business. From sales and aftersales, to general operations and accounts, I made sure that I understood every element of people’s roles across what was then, the 3 businesses. It was a hands-on education, one that taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and most importantly, looking after the people who make it all happen." ■ Darren Cooper: " Today, as Managing Director, my focus is all about strategy, people development, customer experience, and managing margins. It comes down to the same philosophy I learned from my father all those years ago—make sure you’ve got the strongest team possible around you, and take care of them; ensure you have a happy team, and you will have happy customers. It’s a philosophy that has helped us grow into a successful Group today, with a turnover of £160M across 13 businesses and 300 successful staff. " ■ Darren Cooper: " Now looking at other opportunities, our newest business is myTrusted Electrical. Growing from the success of myEVCP (an EV Charging Point installation business we set up during Covid), myTrusted Electrical has grown into a full service electrical contracting business. Encompassing myCompliance, myLighting, myEVCP Installations, and Maintenance. Whether we're providing advice, handling an installation, or supporting compliance, the goal is the same—to be a name you can trust, from start to finish. It's a family tradition, after all." #FamilyTradition #TrustworthyService #CustomerExperience #BusinessLegacy #HardWorkAfter #PeterCooperMotorGroup

"You will lose every customer you gain over the course of your career. You can never stop selling and growing." - Michael Pierce This was the guidance the owner of Top Flight Transportation, Inc. (Oregon based) gave me on my first day at my first freight brokerage job back in 2006, and this has been 99% true throughout my career. Clients get acquired, people retire or get fired, new people get hired, your contact goes on medical leave, your carrier goes out of business or finds better paying freight, companies go bankrupt and some companies outgrow you. You can never stop growing. #dailysalesism #GrowThroughAttrition

Another one of our drivers is James Manhertz! James joined Tom Moorhouse & Son 8 years ago with 10 years of industry experience, we spoke with James to discuss his job and role within the transport industry. 1. What’s your favourite thing about working in the transport industry? I love traveling the country and seeing different places, no day is the same which keeps the job interesting. 2. What is the most interesting load you have transported? The main ones which stick in my head are delivering outside equipment to The Royal Household Windsor Estate and delivery to Royal Marins depot in Portsmouth. 3. What would you say to someone looking to join the transport industry? This is a job for life and a lifestyle choice, you either take to it or you don’t but it is definitely worth a try.

While not one to post much on LinkedIn to start a conversation, my team assures me that sharing my story may help others see DSV Road as a reliable and trustworthy business partner. So here it goes. Over 20 years ago, my wife and I made the life-changing decision to sell our trucks and dive into the 3PL world. With a mortgage and bills to pay, but fueled by passion, I approached a flatbed broker in Medford, Oregon, to join their agent program. After a series of interviews, the wife and I dropped off the kids and headed west for the first time - wide-eyed, broke, and ready to conquer the brokerage world. Visiting Crater Lake made us feel small, but the Medford Operations team welcomed us like family, training us everything about track and trace, contracts, carrier services, credit lines, scammers, and more. Thirteen years later, DSV acquired our beloved Medford 3PL team, infusing new life and energy into the program. After a few rounds of negotiations, I transitioned my franchise and accepted the role of Over Dimensional Manager at DSV Road North America Corporate. In the years that followed, my original team and I have been fortunate to take on various corporate roles that have helped develop the North American Road Brokerage divisions. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities DSV has provided and humbled by the success of the teams and the organization as a whole. Recently, DSV requested that I refocus on the agent program, recognizing the need to scale the program and develop new talent. Our recent team efforts have centered on promoting, recruiting, refining processes, and establishing the DSV agent program as a haven for entrepreneurial logistics professionals. Thus my self-promotion and yes I am uncomfortable doing this but duty calls .. So, I'm at the beginning of a series of posts, and if you'd like to see other interesting stories and observations from my experience, please repost this post and click "Like" :) 👉 Join DSV Road Agent Program: https://t.ly/RJgBI

I’m sitting in my room, quietly prepping for today’s workshop with the First Financial Equipment Leasing - JA Mitsui Leasing Group sales team (and a few other good men and women). I had the privilege of observing their awesome all day yesterday, and enjoying a beautiful evening with them last night. Now it is my turn to pour back into them so they are ready for the next year ahead. There will be dancing - duh. There will be self-reflection. There will be laughter. There will be dreaming. There will be resilience. There will be a breakthrough to excellence. This has me wondering what you all consider excellence. Is excellence only a result? Is excellence who you are on the way to the results? #wednesdaywisdom #equipmentleasing #equipmentfinancing #workshop #sales #culture #peakperformance #excellence #speaker #speakerlife PEQ Performance Consulting LLC

What do you do to be more productive and what challenges does it bring? I love driving. I even used to race at #Silverstone, #BrandsHatch, #Pembrey #Snetterton etc. That was a lifetime ago. I could drive before I was 17 and made my mum take me out on the road at midnight on my 17th birthday!! I still enjoy driving when I get the opportunity to drive but these days I let my partner drive more. Two reasons; firstly I can get some work done and secondly she can’t complain about my driving 🤪 So a Win Win!! Today I am travelling back from York to the West Midlands via Northampton after visiting an Aparthotel that I helped at the end with #privatefinance. If you are in York look up The Railway House by Chateau Anna, simply stunning. So time in the back seat has allowed me time to think. Am I too busy as I never seem to stop working? Am I taking on too many news projects? #NewBuild in the #Cotswolds, #SupportedLiving Operational company, #HMO, #BTL, #Commercial, #HolidayLet, #Homeless #PrivateLending Could I find ways of being more productive or delegate more so that I can spend more time doing what I enjoy. Though I do enjoy work so it keeps pulling my back. I can’t justify a chauffeur, I don’t do that much long distance driving. It did get me thinking about tasks that we all do that we don’t enjoy to save money but it steals our time. So that time old problem of Time v Money. Routine work tasks which many of us do that we say to ourselves only take 10 minutes, when it all goes right that we continue to do rather than delegate. Routine processes that we need to spend time and effort on to work out a process and put systems in place. I am guilty of all of the above and for various reasons will be sitting down with my team over the next few months and asking what tasks can we systemis and improve on? Also looking at a potential new hire. I will be looking at the parts of my role that are not the best use of my time, even though I enjoy them. That is a poor excuse I feel. I will stop telling myself nobody else can do them so I have to. Truth is my colleagues or others can probably do them better than me. As for AI….its time to grip the bull by the horns and stop doing things the old way as I don’t “Have Time” today to learn how to use new technology or techniques. What are you going to do to get time back in your life?

Finishing up my 10th year in this industry with Armstrong Transport Group. It's been a fun ride. Plenty of ups and down, to include the market! 😀 Here's five things I learned to help others be successful in the broker business. 🤝 Relationships matter! Customer, Carrier, Workplace, Network. When you can create an authentic relationship with anyone, trust comes along with it, then loyalty! Build of these. 🌄 Breaks matter! You have to be able to step away from the day to day. Whether it's walk, a day staycation, a week in the mountains. Take time to get away 😎 Authenticity matters! When you are not your true self, they will eventually see your true colors. Make sure those colors are truly shining through! 📞 Conversations matter! In cold calling, negotiating with carriers, updating customers. Good news, bad news. Updating your internal team, updating your broad network. Communication is the 🗝 key. 👷♂️ Hard Work Matters! I can teach anyone to be a broker. As my man Casey Brown says on week one of ATG new broker training. You give us time, effort and energy, we'll give you ours. And a bonus 🎓 Personal Growth matters! Always be working on yourself. The better person you are, the more you can add value to others. Some shout outs that got me this far. Robert Farias, for introducing me to this industry. Graton Eason for giving me the opportunity Matt Millensifer for building the foundation to be a great broker and trainer. The OG Team Milly - Zach, Brandon P., James, Ryan, Tony. Paving the way for a great leadership team. OG Team Wat - Kyler H, Lindsay H Marcus F. for allowing me to lead a great team, and sticking with the biz Brian - Trusting the training process My Current Team - Cari, Jo, Casey Brown, Brendan Zedlitz. Stephen Making it easy. The bosses boss - Cameron Ramsdell To the moon Industry Network Shout outs Trey Griggs Chris Jolly #streetcrew Greg, Robert Kyle Jennifer Jeff Mitch Kowalewski Honorable mentions Lauren Anthony Thomas Jim Kent D Ken Stephanie Jordan #10years #freightbroker #decade #transportation #freightsensei

The next driver we would like to introduce you to is Andrew Williams. Andrew has been with Tom Moorhouse & Son for 7 years ago with a total of 32 years industry experience, we spoke with Andrew to discuss his thoughts on working within the transport industry. 1. What’s your favourite thing about working in the transport industry? In the old days, I used to love driving when there were less vehicles on the road and less hold up. Now, being your own boss, you are responsible for making the day work around your deliveries. 2. What is the most interesting load you have transported? There has been a few interesting loads which come to mind, the first one being the delivery of Architectural stone to RHS Chelsea Flower Show and delivering Yorkshire Stone to hotel in Mayfair London. 3. What would you say to someone looking to join the transport industry? As long as you look after your licence and keep fit this is truly a job for life.
