Campaign for Mathematical Sciences (CaMS)’s Post

Earlier today the Campaign for Mathematical Sciences brought the maths community together for a parliamentary expo to mark Maths Week England. Kindly hosted by Chair of the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee and CaMS supporter Chi Onwurah MP, the event invited academia and industry to engage with policymakers and highlight cutting-edge applications of maths. We also heard speeches from Heilbronn Institute Chair Professor Catherine Hobbs CMath FIMA FRSA, Liberal Democrat Universities and Skills spokesperson Ian Sollom MP, Professor Aoife Hunt MBE and Shadow Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology Dr Ben Spencer. #MathsWeekEngland

Superb speech from Professor Aoife Hunt MBE and great to hear a shout-out for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) (which was the focus of my research for 30 years, albeit not in crowd safety and security!)

Many thanks to CaMS for organising this successful event! The OR Society team had a fantastic time at our stand, connecting with new contacts and strengthening existing ones. There was a real buzz in the room, with fascinating conversations and inspiring talks. We look forward to continuing our support for CaMS and Maths Week England. #ORSociety #MathsWeekEngland #ChiaraCarparelli

Wonderful morning at the Houses of Parliament reflecting on the importance of maths and mathematical science and connecting and reconnecting with maths educators wanting to improve even further maths outcomes in the UK.
