#ICYMI: Can gaming simulators support eVTOL pilot training and AAM infrastructure development? Flight simulators, originally created for hobbyists, are stepping into the aviation spotlight to support eVTOL pilot training and infrastructure development. Platforms like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and X-Plane 12 are now equipped with eVTOL aircraft models from Joby Aviation, Archer, and BETA TECHNOLOGIES, merging entertainment with real-world applications. Florida-based Vertiport Simulations is leveraging this shift for heliport and vertiport design. By integrating eVTOL infrastructure—like electric charging units from Beta Technologies—into virtual environments, the company helps stakeholders preview and refine vertiport layouts in real-time which in turn expedites changes and client approval. With X-Plane 12 already FAA-certified for some flight training, and the AAM sector needing scalable solutions to train pilots and standardize infrastructure, could gaming simulators provide the answer? 🎊 Coming out of #LoftFest2024, we're thrilled to more broadly announce our entry into the electric vehicle takeoff and landing (#eVTOL) market in partnership with Dufour Aerospace As the first and only VR simulator with major regulatory approval, we’re taking our proven technology with helicopters and developing our inaugural VR eVTOL simulator for Dufour’s new tilt-wing Aero3. Designed for emergency medical services, the Aero3 requires pilots to land in diverse environments and get patients to the nearest hospitals as quickly as possible—and do so in a new type of aircraft. Our VR sim will safely and efficiently prepare their pilots for the nuanced, high-stress, and challenging demands they’ll encounter. “Loft Dynamics’ VR approach is undoubtedly superior among extended reality training solutions and is critical as we develop the Aero3…It allows pilots to integrate new concepts quickly and effectively, including tilt-wing operation and fountain lift and suckdown ground effects at low to zero speeds. Most importantly, it enables our pilots to gain experience in a safe and hyper-realistic environment. This will generate invaluable data as we develop the aircraft.” - Thomas Pfammatter, CEO of Dufour Looking forward to this next chapter of revolutionizing helicopter training—and eVTOL training. We've only just begun! Why are simulators so important? (Also spent far to long trying to nail this clip which I didn’t😂) Alongside commercial and cinematic flying, I spend a lot of time flying FPV freestyle. Simulators are key to building muscle memory. They allow you to practice complex maneuvers and refine your skills in real time, no matter where you are. Whether it’s flying through an abandoned building in France or navigating a track in Austria, simulators give you the space to learn, repeat, and improve without the pressure of real world risks. This is the part most people don’t see, the countless hours spent in the sim, building confidence and perfecting technique before the real flights. #FPV #FPVSim #Drone

Taxiing For Takeoff: The Promise of eVTOLs: Flying cars are very easy to hype. Most images of the future almost always include mass mobility in the air. It is one of the staples of any depiction of advanced modern societies and a trope of almost every science fiction movie or book (however dystopian). It is an exciting time where the level of technological advancement is reaching the stage of making electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft a feasible reality. http://dlvr.it/T4y59P
