#ICYMI: Can gaming simulators support eVTOL pilot training and AAM infrastructure development? Flight simulators, originally created for hobbyists, are stepping into the aviation spotlight to support eVTOL pilot training and infrastructure development. Platforms like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and X-Plane 12 are now equipped with eVTOL aircraft models from Joby Aviation, Archer, and BETA TECHNOLOGIES, merging entertainment with real-world applications. Florida-based Vertiport Simulations is leveraging this shift for heliport and vertiport design. By integrating eVTOL infrastructure—like electric charging units from Beta Technologies—into virtual environments, the company helps stakeholders preview and refine vertiport layouts in real-time which in turn expedites changes and client approval. With X-Plane 12 already FAA-certified for some flight training, and the AAM sector needing scalable solutions to train pilots and standardize infrastructure, could gaming simulators provide the answer?
