A dear friend has a great saying that I feel fits with Dr. Richard Fejo’s post below. “You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.” What this means in relation to Dr Fejo’s post is that we can call the incarceration (jailing) of children, some only 10 years old which is the average age of a child in grade 5 of primary school, as necessary and then take these children away from their community (parents/family/elders/school/sports/friends/teachers) so they have zero access to what they need to grow, in order to ‘teach them a lesson’. This IS what the Stolen Generations of Indigenous children suffered. We are still stealing these children from their families. Please do not mistake me - I am not exonerating the wrong doing of these children. But they are CHILDREN! And two wrongs do not make a right. The adults need to be doing better. ALL Adults. If it worked, if jailing children fixed the problems, sure (not really!). BUT IT DOESN’T. Australia MUST see this, really look at this in all its horribleness. It is happening right now, in November 2024. This has to stop. So…what can WE do? We can take 15 minutes (schedule it if you can’t do it right now) to have your opinion heard. The Australian Minister of Indigenous Australians, Malarndirri McCarthy, can be contacted via email: malarndirri.mccarthy@niaa.gov.au. Just a short, to the point email and you have contributed to change. Ask for our Federal Government to address this country-wide issue of child law-breaking in a way that supports these children to change for the better, to acknowledge their human rights as children of Australia as set out in the UN Human Rights Council, to support their families to improve their wellbeing and connections, to reunite the children with their communities, but most of all, to show these children that they matter and that we care. Otherwise, another stolen generation is on OUR hands.

Honoring the Martyrs of 26/11! 🇮🇳 On this solemn day, we remember the tragic events of November 26, 2008, when our nation faced an unprecedented act of terror that changed our lives forever. Today, we pay homage to the brave souls who stood firm against the tide of violence — the police officers, security personnel, and civilians who displayed extraordinary courage on that fateful night. Their sacrifices remind us of the sanctity of life and the enduring spirit of resilience that binds our nation. As an educator, I believe that no war can be deemed just. Violence begets violence, and every act of terror only deepens the wounds of society. We must elevate our discourse and instill a sense of justice rooted in peace, understanding, and respect for human dignity. Education serves as our strongest ally in this endeavor. It empowers individuals to challenge hatred, to seek diplomacy over conflict, and to advocate for a world where differences are celebrated rather than feared. Let us honor the martyrs not just with words, but by committing ourselves to fostering a culture of peace and understanding among future generations. US Invisible War Americans vs Americans Not too different from Israel vs Palestinians As the culture of impunity proliferate. Everyone pushes the boundaries of what they can get away with. I have a long list of police misconducts around me. Along with a long list of crimes against me by the US military. White supremacy is alive and acting up. And it is like a dead big thrashing. Israel genocide is really rooted in white supremacy. That ideology inside the US is creating another situation where everyone will declare the right to defend themselves. Just like Netanyahu. How will the US pivot internally? Continue to support white supremacy? Make a uturn?

Congressman Torres continues to be a beacon of moral clarity and an inspiration. He stands out among my Democratic Party, too many of whom (mainly on the progressive end) express morally and socially misguided views. Those who are truly pro-Palestinian must be anti-Hamas. Those who are truly pro-Lebanese must be anti-Hezbollah. Those who are truly pro-Afghan must be anti-Taliban. Those who are truly pro-Iranian must be anti-Iranian regime. Radical Islamist ideology (not Israel) is responsible for the oppressed existence of the citizens in those places. Israel is fighting the radical Islamist militants on multiple fronts. There will be peace in the Middle East and better lives for Palestinians and other Arab Muslims when the Islamist regimes change, not when Israel stops “oppressing” them. Israel will stop fighting against them (and collateral civilian deaths will cease) when they stop calling for the total destruction of Israel and attacking Israel. I implore my fellow citizens and especially all fellow Democrats to recognize and acknowledge that reality.
