Armin Hauer, the Convenor of JAG 22, talks in an interview about the goals and current activities of JAG 22. These include providing input and critique for the update of EMSA’s Motor Systems Tool. The IEC’s advisory committee for energy efficiency, the ACEE, brought the IEC and ISO together to form the Joint Advisory Group 22 (JAG 22) Optimized Energy and Power Consumption of Electric Driven Machine Units. JAG 22 was set up to facilitate the exchange and coordination between ISO and the IEC in the field of all types of electric driven machine units. Consisting of 30 key experts from more than 10 countries, it works to identify any coordination issues, proposed solutions, arrange discussions and provide guidance. JAG 22 acts as a catalyst between the various technical committees that are responsible for their own specific components. 🌍 It's World Standards Day 🌍 Since the 1860s, IGEM has been committed to supporting a safer and more efficient gas industry through the development of trusted technical standards. These standards are used to assist in compliance with national legislation and provide official approved codes of practice and guidance. So far this year, we've released 11 standards, including updates in hydrogen, gas safety, and transmission and distribution. Our most recent publication is IGEM/UP/19 Edition 2 Supplement 1, which provides guidance for gas engineers in catering establishments. IGEM has now published 98 standards, specifications, and industry guidance documents, trusted by organisations like Ofgem, Health and Safety Executive and Gas Safe Register These have been viewed by thousands of professionals, helping them stay informed on best practices across the sector. Interconnection remains a major bottleneck to US generator additions, and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission deserves credit for organizing this workshop with expert panels across six topics, for which FERC just released a final agenda (in-person/webcast, Sept. 10-11): 1) Integrated Transmission Planning & Interconnection 2) Different Approaches to Interconnection Processing & Studies (ERIS/Connect & manage) 3) Prioritizing Interconnection Requests 4) Further Efficiencies in Interconnection Process 5) Automation & Advanced Computing Technologies 6) Post-Generator Interconnection Agreement Construction Phase The workshop should generate a valuable evidentiary record, with panelists filing written responses to FERC's questions (see linked notice) and supporting material in the public docket, and interested parties will be able to submit post-workshop comments. The record could be used to inform a future notice of proposed rulemaking (NOPR), or not, but at minimum should provide a useful informational resource for FERC and stakeholders. FERC is asking interested attendees to register by Aug. 26 to guarantee your spot in-person or online. https://lnkd.in/eASwM4Jm

On June 12, 2024, the CAISO Board of Governors will decide whether to approve the California Independent System Operator (“CAISO”) proposed Revised Addendum to Final Proposal (the “Addendum”). Resulting from the 2023 Interconnection Process Enhancement initiative, which has been a stakeholder process focused on “enhancing coordination of resource procurement and interconnection, resource planning and transmission to achieve state reliability and policy need,” the Addendum clarifies: 🔶 How CAISO will implement the zonal approach and assess available transmission capacity for each cluster; 🔶 The scoring process, along with recommendations to load-serving entities (“LSE”) on the LSE allocation process; and 🔶 The CAISO’s reasoning behind the treatment of Energy Only resources. Early 2023 two USPI Safaris were held on information management of the Dutch nuclear Pallas project. It was shown how the plant information modeling was done using international standards. These Safaris were well visited and appreciated. On 16 Apr 2024 a USPI Safari workshop was held on lessons learnt from doing information management of large capital facilities over their life cycle in general. The purpose of the safari was to: - share lessons learned from managing information in large capital facility projects, specifically based on using a Common Data Environment with the aim to adopt international standards - sound out with participants what possible follow-up we should think of. In his presentation Dr. van Ruijven focused on: - Scope and context of information management in Large Capital Facility Projects (LCFP) - Problem areas and challenges doing information management in LCF Projects - Considerations with respect to an information management strategy in your LCF project - Closing remarks (candidate chapters for a follow-up ‘deep dive’ safari) Please read more here:

Most folks think RE+ is the place-to-be next week. Hardcore clean energy policy geeks know that the real action is at FERC's #interconnection reform technical conference. I'll be speaking at the Sep 10 session on Prioritizing Generator Interconnection Requests, which is where many stakeholder conversations are going after CAISO filed a new tariff to this effect last month. Give a shout if you'll be there! Suffice it to say that solving interconnection is critical to moving through the 2+ terrawatts (!) of resources requesting to connect to the power grid. There's good ways and bad ways to do this. I'm eager to defend the principles of open access and markets, especially when there are more systematic reforms to the interconnection process that can solve our problems much more effectively than trying to adjudicate each interconnection request.
