Suicide in the construction industry is four times higher than the national average. September is #NationalSuicidePreventionMonth and a good time to consider what you can do to help end this issue, especially if you are in the trades. The 4x5 Suicide Prevention Program, started by the safety team at CSE, provides Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training courses, life-saving resources, and presentations to increase awareness of this important issue and create work environments where employees can support their physical and mental well-being. Help us end suicide in construction for good. Visit 4x5program.org to learn how you can get involved.

🌟 Championing Mental Health First Aid: A Case Study with Britton and Time Solicitors 🌟 On my training courses I am always asked about the best ways to let an organisation know about health and wellbeing initiatives. While many rely on emails, they often get lost in the shuffle of daily tasks. Britton and Time Solicitors have set a remarkable example of how to champion mental health first aid both internally and externally. Instead of solely relying on emails, Britton and Time Solicitors have taken a proactive approach by actively promoting their mental health initiatives on LinkedIn and other social platforms. This not only enhances visibility but also demonstrates their commitment to mental well-being to a broader audience. Here's why their approach is so effective: Visibility and Engagement: By sharing their mental health first aid training and initiatives on LinkedIn, Britton and Time engage with their employees and the wider community, showing their dedication to mental health. Leading by Example: Their active promotion serves as a powerful example to other organisations, illustrating the importance of mental health support and encouraging others to follow suit. Breaking the Stigma: Publicly discussing mental health initiatives helps break down stigmas associated with mental health conditions, fostering an environment of openness and support. Building a Positive Culture: Consistent communication and promotion of mental health support build a culture where employees feel valued and supported. Let’s take a page out of Britton and Time’s book and explore diverse and effective ways to communicate our mental health initiatives. Together, we can create supportive and thriving workplaces. #MentalHealthFirstAid #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #EmployeeWellbeing #Leadership #MentalHealthSupport #BrittonAndTime #ChampioningWellbeing

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Encourage your contractor clients to make mental health and suicide prevention a construction project safety priority by incorporating one or more of the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention Toolbox Talks into their safety plans. https://buff.ly/3UBlaXU The Safety Toolbox Talk is a great introduction into why discussing mental health is important to jobsite safety. NASBP is a caring stakeholder and supporter of CIASP. #MentalHealthMonth #BeGuaranteedtoSucceed

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, construction has one of the highest suicide rates of all industries. Over 5,000 construction workers die by suicide each year, which is five times more than the number of jobsite fatalities. Engaging in Mental Health First Aid is proactive risk management and can be encouraging to staff who may struggle.
Please register to attend the upcoming Mental Health First Aid construction training course on Monday, January 20, 2025. The training includes 2 hours of precourse work and virtual training via Zoom. Completing the precourse work is required before attending the online course. Visit https://lnkd.in/e9hWY5CN to register.
