🌍 CASI Presents to the G20 SFWG Meeting On September 9, Dr Ma Jun, Chairman of the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), delivered a presentation on CASI to the fourth G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This event focused on updating and tracking the implementation of the G20 Technical Assistance Action Plan (TAAP) and invited a few capacity-building service providers, including CASI, for presentations. Dr Ma updated the SFWG on the progress of CASI’s four major programs: CASI Sustainability Forums, CASI Seminars, CASI Academy, and CASI Training/TA Services. During the first eight months of this year, CASI hosted eight events—including two forums and six seminars—attracting 4,200 participants from over 40 jurisdictions. Additional events are planned for later this year in the Middle East and Central Asia region. During the discussion, Dr Ma addressed several key issues, including the customization of technical assistance services for different jurisdictions and enhancing capacity building for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He elaborated on four types of TA demand from developing countries on sustainable finance: awareness raising, policy/standard design, financial market/product innovation, and green development roadmaps that could lead to the origination of bankable sustainable projects. Dr Ma reaffirmed CASI’s commitment to supporting the G20 TAAP’s implementation and expressed eagerness to collaborate with other organizations to advance capacity-building and technical assistance efforts for emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). CASI aims to continue delivering high-quality, impactful sustainable finance capacity-building services to emerging and developing economies (EMDEs). Workshop on Sustainable Investment from 12 to 14 May 2024 in #Madrid, #Spain. 12 to 14 May 2024, Madrid, Spain – In line with its strong commitment to promote sustainable economic development in the Mediterranean region, the UfM Secretariat, with the support of the German Development Cooperation and in collaboration with Climate & Company, one of Germany’s leading Sustainable Finance Think Tanks, will organize a Workshop on Sustainable Investment from 12 to 14 May 2024 in Madrid, Spain. The event will provide a unique opportunity for experts and relevant stakeholders from the region to discuss how to define, measure and ensure the sustainability of investments in light of taxonomy developments and their implications for UfM countries. In addition, the workshop will engage participants around the relevant ESG disclosure regulations and frameworks at the EU and the international level. Structured around panels, presentations, breakout sessions, a field visit and a cultural part, this activity aims to: Inform participants about the best approaches to measure and ensure the sustainable impact of investment portfolios. Incentivise participants to share their experiences on sustainable investment, including lessons learned and challenges, and inspire location-relevant action and cooperation among the participants. In 2019, the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and its International Standards for Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) honoured us with an award recognising our innovative contributions to sustainability reporting. Around the same time, 200 front-running U.S. CEOs committed to shifting their focus from shareholder profit to broader stakeholder value. Along the way, we teamed up with Harvard Business School’s Impact Weighted Accounts Initiative, the Singapore Management University and the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University to publish ‘The Impact Weighted Account Framework’ (IWAF) under the flag of the Impact Economy Foundation. Fast forward to 2024, with IWAF being our flagship framework, the movement towards sustainability reporting has expanded significantly, and the landscape of business accountability continues to evolve. Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Pernilla Bergmark, Research Lead for Financial System Benchmarking at the #WorldBenchmarkingAlliance ( WBA). Talking with her was an inspiring experience, as I learned about the impactful work her organization is doing to drive corporate accountability and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). WBA’s work centers around seven crucial dimensions to create a more sustainable and equitable future: Finance – Ensuring sustainable allocation of resources across sectors Decarbonization & Energy – Reducing global dependency on carbon-based energy Food & Agriculture – Supporting production of nutritious, healthy food within planetary boundaries Digital Economy – Building an inclusive, secure, and safe digital future Social Inclusion – Promoting responsible, inclusive economic practices that aim to leave no one behind Urban Development – Crafting sustainable, resilient, and livable cities Nature – Protecting biodiversity and securing a nature-positive future WBA is proving that companies that commit to sustainability, embed it into their strategies, and actively implement it achieve long-term success. Their message resonates with young people who are eager to drive positive change and contribute to a sustainable world. 【#MPFANews Cross-Agency Steering Group and International Sustainability Standards Board members met in Hong Kong】 Members of the Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group (Steering Group) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (#ISSB) met yesterday (27 March) to discuss and promote sustainability disclosures by companies and financial institutions in Hong Kong.   The Steering Group and the ISSB held an industry roundtable with around 20 representatives from listed companies and different financial services sectors. Participants exchanged views on their experiences in and the unique circumstances for entities making sustainability disclosures in Hong Kong and Asia. They also explored the core elements of a local sustainability disclosures ecosystem that will require further support. Adrian Mucalov, Partner and Head of Long Life Infrastructure at Actis, spoke on a panel last week at New Private Markets’ Responsible Investment Forum Asia in Singapore, about the evolution of sustainability in Asian private markets. The panel discussed the importance of locally based sustainability heads within Asia, how different local and international funds are approaching sustainability in the region, and the global perspective on sustainability in Asian private markets. Adrian explained Actis’ approach to sustainability – how we seek to build sustainable value creation into the core operation of the businesses in which we invest regardless of local regulatory environment. Three key takeaways from the event: - Sustainability needs to be built into the investment process, both for value creation and risk management purposes, with both helping to create more valuable companies over time. - There was a consensus from panellists that there has been a dramatic increase in focus on sustainability by Asian investors. - Asia needs to play a leading role in the energy transition, given its population, growth trajectory and current emissions profile. #SustainableInvesting #SustainableInfrastructure #Sustainability
