Uniting the World - The Olympic Games are a global stage for athletic excellence, but beyond this, the Olympic Games have shown us that they're a powerful force for unity, connecting people from every corner of the world. The 2024 Olympics broke records and barriers alike, while the spirit of togetherness was at the heart of the Games. From gender parity to sustainability, from packed venues to fans lining the streets, Paris became a beacon of global community. Yet none of this would have been possible without the vital role played by the air transport industry. The Olympics bring together athletes, fans, and cultures from 206 National Olympic Committees and beyond, and it is air travel that makes this incredible convergence possible. The 8.8% surge in flights between Paris and the United States during August 2024 is a demonstration of how aviation connects the world, enabling millions to share in the joy and excitement of the Games. The Olympic Games remind us that when we come together, we can achieve greatness. A robust air transport industry ensures these connections are not just dreams, but seamless reality. #airtransport #olympicgames #paris2024 #technology #airconnectivity

Compelling perspective on how the Paris 2024 Olympics embody the power of cultural transformation. France's journey from a 1960s sporting crisis to becoming a global sports powerhouse teaches us invaluable lessons about embedding lasting change. Just as France reshaped its national identity through sport, businesses can draw inspiration from this evolution. It reminds us that meaningful cultural change requires vision, persistence, and a commitment to long-term goals. For leaders and managers, embracing these principles can drive profound and enduring transformation within organizations, proving that resilience and strategic focus are key to achieving lasting impact.
2024 Olympics – lessons on culture 🇫🇷 With the opening ceremony of this summer’s Olympic Games just hours away, the sense of anticipation in the French capital is palpable. But as Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff, PhD points out, getting the French public to buy into the excitement around the international multi-sport event wasn’t a fait accompli. “French culture is not typically synonymous with sports”. France has worked hard over decades to build a sporting culture into the national fabric. So what can the business world learn from the French experience? This first post Paris Olympics week is still carrying the buzz of excitement and inspiration! What was it about this Olympics that had many of us at hello?! Paris’ historic beauty is undeniable. In collaboration with the greatest sporting event on this planet, it was the first Olympics with full gender parity and delivered across 32 sports many magnificent moments, heartbreaking defeats, moving stories of the athlete’s pilgrimage to get there, fun entertainment (Snoop Dogg did not disappoint!), excellent “play by play” coverage and unity. For all of the upheaval in various parts of the world, the ability of the global sports communities to come together in respect and support, even in the throes of intense competition, was a master class in how to do it. -Lift one another up and celebrate the achievements -Learn from the experiences -Recognize the generations of Olympic athletes who came before and paved the way to be better, along with the competitors who pushed the level of performances to the highest and best in the moment -Appreciate all of it and the village of people who were an integral part of the journey While there were issues; some that could be quickly addressed and resolved, some that required an alternate plan and others that are still smarting from a questionable decision, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games captured our heart's and broke many records. #ParisOlympics #WaytogoUSA #lovewhatyoudo #teamwork #healthandwellbeing #LA2028

Later this week, my home country of France will host an estimated 15 million visitors and millions more viewers of the Olympics (July 26 - August 11) and Paralympics (August 28 - September 8). This will be France's sixth occasion hosting the Olympics and I will be proudly present in Paris to admire the tennis players smashing yellow balls. 🎾 Whether you admire the Games for their athleticism or national pride, they deliver a spectacular experience. People generally perceive winning the bid to host the Olympics as an honor. However, there is growing concern about the negative financial, environmental, and social impacts. The Olympics is a complex catalyst for urban redevelopment. Read more in my recent blog post here: https://lnkd.in/e8jr4pbD In both sports and city management, defense is often the best offense. As we eagerly anticipate the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, let’s take a moment to reflect on the iconic symbol that embodies the spirit of the Games: the Olympic Symbol (https://lnkd.in/eCxyfrCV). This powerful emblem, composed of five interlaced rings: blue, yellow, black, green and red, represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Games. Did you know that World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO (https://lnkd.in/eeSkKCFr) administers the Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol? Adopted in Nairobi on September 26, 1981, this treaty obliges Contracting Parties to prohibit any commercial use of the Olympic Symbol and to refuse or invalidate the registration of any mark containing or consisting of it, unless authorized by the International Olympic Committee. As we look forward to Paris 2024, let's celebrate not only the incredible athletes who will compete but also the Nairobi Treaty. The Treaty is a true testament to international cooperation and respect for intellectual property, reflecting the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. #OlympicGames #Paris2024 #OlympicsParis #OlympicSymbol #WIPO #NairobiTreaty #IOC

Today marks the start of the Olympics which is being held in Paris until the 11th August. For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium but along a 6k parade route, starting tonight at 8.30pm GMT. A few fun facts: 🏅 Out of the 10,500 athletes participating in the Games, 5,250 will be men and 5,250 women 🏅 32 different sports 🏅 There will be no air conditioning in the athletes’ rooms which has pledged to host the “greenest ever” Games. Instead, buildings in the athletes’ village have been designed with a cooling system drawing water from underground, and facades adjusted so they get little direct sun. 🏅 The Phryges are the official mascots of the Paris 2024 Olympics. They are based on the traditional small Phrygian hats, a symbol of France. 🏅 The 2024 Games will mark the return of the Olympics to Paris after 100 years. I attended the final Session of the Canadian Olympic Committee, before the #Paris2024 Olympics and Paralympics. We covered a great deal of ground: a new strategic plan; implications of the recent federal budget; the coming "Future of Sport in Canada Commission". The Paris Games will focus public attention on high performance sport. This increases the opportunity for the Olympic movement to make the case for sport as a public good, worthy of public support. It also heightens the urgency for sport institutions to put their houses in order, in protecting athlete rights, fostering greater inclusion, and improving governance. https://olympic.ca/ 🍁🏅

👀 One of the events that I'm excitedly waiting for in #Paris2024 is breaking, for sure. Whenever I told people that breakdance is included in the Olympics, they were surprised, so I wanted to check what else is new in the Olympics. However, not only breaking but also some other sporting disciplines are new or returned to Paris 2024, aiming to attract a young audience and fresh energy. For the IMAGO Blog, I wrote about the six new and returning sports at this summer's Olympics, compiled using our high-quality images from current events. You can check it out via the link: https://lnkd.in/erAHXWUD 🏅 What's your most anticipated sport in Paris 2024? #weareIMAGO
