As homebuilding continues in climate-prone areas, it's important to remember that each new development brings added roads, sewers, and utilities—often funded through city or county partnerships. Too often, the short-sighted pursuit of property tax revenue overshadows the long-term costs of maintaining and eventually replacing this infrastructure when extreme weather strikes. Communities deserve infrastructure investments that prioritize resilience over immediate gains, especially given today’s budget constraints. While using the best available climate data is essential, it’s only part of the solution. We must listen to this data, communicate it clearly, and apply it alongside smart engineering and design practices. Informed, forward-thinking decisions can save money and lives—now and in the future. Our work at Resilient Analytics, A Stanley Consultants Company strives to push the conversation on how to make the best decision possible looking at each project holistically.
