Interesting and thought provoking editorial in this week's edition of JAMA detailing the problems with the current RBRVS system. https://lnkd.in/gKaiXQmz Although I applaud the authors and agree with their assessments, I disargree with the recommendations. We should not waste the time, expertise and expenses necessary to revise an archaic system created 30 years ago in a different environment. Better to freeze the current RBRVS system and build a new value based care system upon it. We need to make FFS less desirable and APMs more appealing if we are going to succeed in moving all beneficiaries into alternative payment models by 2030.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' proposed prior authorization demonstration project for #ascs will subject 40 #procedure #codes to prior authorization. #CMS proposes to include #Arizona, #California, #Florida, #Georgia, #Maryland, #New York, #Ohio, #Pennsylvania, #Tennessee and #Texas in the demonstration. #ASCA opposes the demonstration because it will create undue burden for ASCs with no clear benefit to #Medicare or its beneficiaries. Find out what codes will need prior authorization in the demonstration and what ASCA is doing to fight it.
