⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Again, great news for the Spanish private equity industry, which is on track for a record-breaking year, driven by significant corporate transactions agreed upon in the first half of the year. High-profile deals involving companies like idealista, Applus+, Universidad Europea, Globeducate, Prosur, and MONBAKE, among others, have collectively surpassed a value of over €12 billion in this period. 🤯 You can read it all on this article by Pepe Bravo from Expansión. The exceptional quality of the assets brought to market has also played a crucial role in facilitating these agreements and boosting the overall transaction amounts. Notably, several deals have achieved multiples of more than 20 times the company's EBITDA. Key Transactions: ▪ In March, CVC agreed with Ardian to acquire Monbake, the third-largest Spanish manufacturer of frozen dough, valued at €900 million. ▪ CVC is also a contender for purchasing the manufacturing division for third parties of Rovi, valued at over €3.5 billion. ▪ Cinven secured a rapid agreement in June to exclusively negotiate the acquisition of Idealista, valued at €2.9 billion, marking the largest transaction of an online company in Spain's history. ▪ EQT Group acquired Universidad Europea, valued at €2.2 billion. ▪ Wendel acquired a 50% stake in the Globeducate school group, valuing the company at about €2 billion. ▪ The British fund Intermediate Capital Group (ICG) acquired approximately 40% of Prosur, a manufacturer of ingredients for the food sector. ICG valued the entire shareholding plus debt at around €1 billion.

👩💼 In the year 2023, the national firms that participated in investment rounds in the #BioRegionCatalonia have grown above average, while the presence of unique international #investors has decreased. 📈 In 2023, in contrast to the trend of the past four years, national investment firms experienced above average growth, reaching a total of 36, which is double the number of investors compared to 2019. The most active Catalonia-based investors in 2023 were Asabys Partners, Banco Sabadell BStartup, CaixaBank, Clave Capital, Fundación Josep Carreras contra la Leucemia, Invivo Partners, Lavanda, NARA, Ship2B Ventures, WA4STEAM. 🌐 Regarding foreign investment, and despite a slight decrease in 2023, the evident attraction of international capital to the #BioRegion is reflected in the consistent annual increase of 15 to 30 new #investors since 2020. This trend has culminated in a total of 130 #investment firms actively supporting #health #startups and #scaleups established in #Catalonia in 2023. The most active international investors last year were AdBio partners, Elaia, the European Commission, Philips Ventures, Prevail Partners Limited, Sofinnova Partners, and US Capital. 📋 Check the data: https://report.biocat.cat/

Last week in São Paulo, Brazil, our CPO, Juliana Binatti Motta, spoke at the ABVCAP Congress, the premier private equity and venture capital event in Latin America. She shared the successful journey of Pismo, from its origins with prepaid card solutions to becoming a benchmark in replacing legacy systems in the financial services industry. "For a long time, I was the only product person in the company. We started with prepaid card solutions for healthcare products and eventually pivoted to what we are today." During her speech, Juliana emphasized the importance of using solutions and ideas to solve real problems. "You have to believe in your idea but be pragmatic in looking and thinking about what problem you are solving and your capacity for execution." The ABVCAP Congress is a space for discussions and trend analysis in the alternative assets market, promoting debates on venture capital, private equity, and sustainable investments. #ABVCAP #Entrepreneurship #technology

Our Executive Chairman Eloi Planes review the current Fluidra challenges in elEconomista interview, including Fluidra Ventures launch: "Beyond geographically, where will capex go next? The sector has two major trends and opportunities. One is digitalization and connectivity and the other is sustainability. These are the two major axes of development and it is where we are dedicated and where we invest. They are not trends that are separate since connectivity helps efficiency. And hence the reason for the Venture Capital fund they have launched. Yes. It is one more tool to support this. We have already made the first investment in an Israeli company and we have been looking at companies for months. Basically we will look for topics from the digital world, artificial intelligence, technology...etc. You have a sector that has an aftermarket base in which there are still many to be digitalized, where there is the whole issue of the most efficient products from an energy and water use point of view, where penetration is still very low and therefore there is a market that already works and in addition you have these two trends that will give an extra boost. And now, Fluidra, which has been investing in this constantly, we want it to accelerate, both this and water treatment issues, which in reality is also linked to sustainability." Listen! Spread the Word! The "Argentine Investment Forum 2024" is coming. Yes, in October 29th, 2024, we're going to have the Foro Argentino de Inversiones, organized by ARCAP (Asociación Argentina de Capital Privado, Emprendedor y Semilla) & the Agencia Argentina de Inversiones y Comercio Internacional, with Buenos Aires City as the Host. It was a big challenge re-launching the Forum after 4 years, but we're convinced that this is the right moment to talk about Argentina as a great place to invest, with talent, natural resources, and tradition of amazing entrepreneurs. We're really excited about the speakers. Of course, we're going to have tech entrepreneurs & VCs like Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Daniela Espinosa (Ábaco), Tomas Mindlin (Tapi), Gaston Irigoyen (Pomelo), Sebastian Serrano (Ripio), Borja Martel Seward (Roxom), Magdalena Coronel (IDBLab), Eric Acher (monashees), Susana Garcia-Robles (Capria), Adriana Tortajada (1200), Joaquín Abal (Dila), Rodrigo Baer (Upload), Gabriela Castillo Gonzalo (CAF), Priscila Rodrigues (Crescera), and Carlos Ramos de la Vega (LAVCA). I know what you're thinking, so yes, we're going to have Demian Reidel (Chairman of the Council of Advisors of President Milei) presenting the AI Plan been discussed with top tech leaders of the World, Daniel Rabinovich with the AI Strategy from MercadoLibre, and Patricia Pomies with the vision from Globant. Also, we're having the C-Level of companies operating in Argentina in other strategic sectors (agrifood, energy, mining, finance & real estate) like Eduardo Elsztain, Mariano Bosch (Adecoagro), Federico Braun (la Anonima), Fabián Kon (Banco Galicia), Modesto Magadán (Arcor), Pablo Vera Pinto (Vista), Michael Meding (McEwen Copper), Gustavo Gallino (YPF), Daniel Ridelener (TGN), and Gustavo E. Castagnino (Genneia). We'll be talking (again) about private equity in Argentina with Jose Sosa del Valle (Lexington), Ramiro Lauzan (L Catterton), Rodrigo Diaz Valdez (BTG), Roberto Chute (Rohatyn), Juan Sebastian Ron (Lucens), Jeronimo Bosch (Pegasus), Horacio Reyser (Ventus), and Alejandro Sorgentini (Victoria). Finally, we'll have entrepreneurs & investors in "alternative alternatives", like Sebastian "Bruja" Verón (football star & President of Estudiantes de la Plata), Federico Lauria (manager of Bizarrap, Duki & Nikki Nicole), and Mariano Zabaleta (tennis star, Slice Token, and documentary producer). Amazing entrepreneurs & investors, Buenos Aires, a stunning venue (Palacio Libertad), side events ... it's a must coming to the Forum. Actually, the whole week, because on 30/10 it's the Fintech Forum, 31 & 1 the IDBLab Forum, and 1 & 2 the Bitcoin LatConf. We would even help you with a unique restaurants/bodegons tour. A no brainer. Hope to see you all on October 29th, in Argentina. Yes, Argentina (we're coming back baby 😉 ). More details and link to register in the 1st comment. Vamos Argentina! 💪 🇦🇷

LATAM is a hotbed of entrepreneurial energry. And it’s no suprise women are helping lead the way. (Open thread) My colleagues at Forbes Centroamérica do an amazing job of reporting about entrepreneurs, investors and leaders that at changing the landscape of Latin America. This week it was also great to see them celebrate and awesome venture funds focused on Latin entrepreneurs. And of course I am always extra enthusiastic when I see women-led venture firms like Ganas Ventures make the list! You see, the common denominator among every high-performing VC fund is great people (like 🙌🏽 Lolita Taub) who use their insight and influence to highlight the success of others… (check out Lolita’s LinkedIn feed) to see what I mean. The way we build entrepreneurial communities is by celebrating entrepreneurial success both financially and publicly. Felicitaciones Ganas Ventures on the recognition and thank you Lolita for helping show us the way leadership shines a light on others. (Which makes me wonder, who else should we be celebrating and amplifying across LATAM and the world? Don’t be shy in sharing the love!) #ForbesImpactLab #ForbesLTN #LATAM #VentureCapital

Recently, Borja had the opportunity to speak with @Al-Andalus Innovation Venture. Here are some of the key insights: 🌍 Influence of the economic and geopolitics on VC: The state of the economy and the geopolitical context directly impact the divestment and fundraising activities of VCs with a short delay. However, those factors only indirectly affect VC investment activity and valuations with a longer delay. 💻 Influence of tech on VC: VC investment activity is primarily driven by technological advancements that enable new ways to generate value or disrupt industry incumbents. 🇪🇸 Spanish Startup Ecosystem in 2024: The Spanish startup ecosystem is experiencing cautious optimism, maintaining the enterprise value of VC-backed companies, which surpassed €100 billion in 2023. 👩💻 Challenges for Spanish Entrepreneurs: While Spanish entrepreneurs are becoming more mature, they still face significant barriers. To position itself as a hub of innovation, Spain needs to address and alleviate these challenges. Additionally, Borja shared what Nauta looks for in investment opportunities and the criteria used to evaluate potential investments. 📖 Read the full article here (in Spanish): https://lnkd.in/dGDH9V_9 #VentureCapital #VC #AAIV23 #Spain
