Focusing on Stroke Rehabilitation #Strokesurvivor
Olympic champion Michael Johnson is a familiar face on the BBC at the moment! Did you know that he’s a stroke survivor? Stroke can happen to anyone… Michael’s stroke was in 2018 and he has spoken about the arduous first weeks of recovery – including taking 10 minutes to walk just 200 metres – the distance for which he had clocked 19.32 seconds while breaking the world record in Atlanta. Our charity partners the Stroke Association are doing amazing work with stroke survivors all over the UK and we’re so happy to support this work. Photo: Barcex, Wikimedia Commons

Asbestos is an invisible threat - the danger lies in the microscopic fibers. They can't be seen with the naked eye and become airborne when disturbed through renovation, demolition, or even natural wear and tear. #asbestos #asbestosawareness #mesothelioma #mesotheliomaawareness #asbestoscancer #charity #awareness

Kyle's design and web development skills have been invaluable in making Post Stroke a reality. He recently designed and developed our new website which looks incredible! He has over 13 years of experience in UX/Product Design and Frontend Web Development, and it shows. He's also proficient in and passionate about web accessibility, something that's incredibly important for my organization, but should be the standard for all websites. I'm so proud of Post Stroke's new site! Check it out ⬇️ #stroke #strokerecovery #strokerehab #poststroke #nonprofit #web #webdeveloper #webdevelopment #frontenddev #frontenddevelopment #ux #ui #uxdesign #uidesign #productdesign
This past week, I carved out some time to design and build a quick new site for my wife’s nonprofit, Post Stroke. It’s very much an MVP-type project; we have a ton of ideas we’ve yet to build out. But I think it’s a solid first step and a reminder that ‘done is better than perfect’ :) Also, for those not in the know, this month is Stroke Awareness Month. Post Stroke has a ton of excellent awareness and educational content planned. They also just launched their first fundraiser. I’ll post their info below if you know anyone who might benefit from their free recovery education. Obviously, I’m biased, but I’m incredibly proud of her progress. Her work is making a real and lasting impact on the lives of many stroke survivors worldwide. Stage 1 of #Wines2Whales truly tested us in every way. We climbed a total of 1350 meters in elevation and faced stretches where we had to portage our bikes over rocky, rugged terrain—demanding resilience, focus, and grit. The physical demands were intense, but sharing this journey with my son, Byron, brought a unique joy. Riding side by side, supporting each other through every climb and descent, has made this by challenge deeply meaningful. This experience has also reminded me of a powerful lesson: real growth happens outside our comfort zones. Being pushed to your limits is what builds resilience—a quality essential for success not only in races but also in business. Facing challenges head-on, adapting to unexpected obstacles, and finding the strength to keep going even when things get tough are what prepare us to lead effectively. But this ride is about more than the race; it’s about giving back. Through our partnership with #MilesForSmiles, we’re raising funds to provide life-changing corrective surgeries for children with #CleftLips and #CleftPalates. Each donation helps us get closer to transforming a child’s life forever. We’ve already funded two surgeries, and with your support, we’re aiming for more. Please consider joining us on this journey to bring smiles and brighter futures to these children. Every contribution, big or small, truly makes a difference.

Why are we reposting this recent call to action from our valued partner, The Alliance for Longevity Initiatives to support the The Dog Aging Project? Well, our GCLS mascot Jamie, a loving and energetic Labrador lady, has a strong personal interest in this project and the clinical trials by Loyal - a big woof to Ari Cohen, M.S., their director of drug development, for giving us a first introduction - which are both showing promise in extending dogs' lifespans. This would, for the first time, demonstrate healthy life extension in a beloved family member thanks to longevity science! Suddenly, the leap from your large dog to a human would seem much more feasible. Imagine the shift in perception this could cause when people realize healthy longevity is possible! Despite this potential, the National Institute on Aging (NIA) has decided to withdraw its funding from the Dog Aging Project, jeopardizing the future of this incredible and groundbreaking initiative. Therefore, even if you don't have a dog (yet!), please consider supporting the Dog Aging Project. 🐶 You can support The Dog Aging Project here: https://lnkd.in/eKF3vSpe #longevity #science #gcls #dogs
Earlier this year, despite its remarkable achievements, the National Institute on Aging (NIA) made the decision to withdraw its funding from the Dog Aging Project, jeopardizing the future of this incredible and groundbreaking initiative. Thankfully, we now have the opportunity to ensure that the vital work of the Dog Aging Project can continue. By donating to the Dog Aging Project, you directly contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at understanding and extending healthspan. Thank you for the support - we’re up to over £2,800 in donations to the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and there is still time for you to make a generous donation!! Please like/share and donate anything you can to support the lives of people impacted by this devastating disease. It touches so many people, and every donation makes a difference to the life of someone living with MND. Here’s how we can help: 🔸£10 provides an information pack to a newly diagnosed person with MND so they know what to expect and how to access support. 🔸£27 funds an MND connect help line advisor for one hour, allowing them to provide information and support for anyone affected by MND. 🔸£75 funds an MND expert researcher for half a day, helping the association better understand the disease. 🔸£160 will buy a specialist communication app, allowing someone who has lost the ability to speak to continue communicating with others. 🔸£200 provides 40 copies of ‘So what is MND anyway?’ A guide for young people affected by MND 🔸£600 funds a seat riser, allowing someone with MND to raise their wheelchair so that they can reach shelves and talk to someone at eye level. 🔸£750 helps to fund a wheelchair ramp allowing someone with MND to continue to enjoy their garden and access to local community. 🔸£1,000 will pay for detailed analysis of the DNA of someone with MND to support further research. 🔸£2,250 provides a text to speech device to give someone the ability to continue communicating with their loved ones.
This September 29th I’ll be taking on the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks Cyclocross Race and doing my bit to raise funds in support for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association. The UK IT Leaders Community is also hosting a charity evening which I will be attending with guest speaker Kevin Sinfield CBE in support for MNDA on 24th September and together we’re hoping we can make a real impact! Any support will be greatly appreciated and if you fancy a fun day out in Yorkshire, head up to Pen-Y-Ghent mid-late morning on Sunday 29th to cheer on the 400 riders as take on the final ascent/descent of what will be a gruelling day! 🫣😅

The latest episode of Light in the D!
In the latest episode of Light in the D, I engage in a conversation with my friend and brother in Christ, Gary Abud, who was diagnosed with Keratoconus at age 10 - an eye disease that affects the structure of the cornea. Gary candidly shares how this disease shaped his life up to his early 20s, including his journey through college, and how a life-changing organ donation granted him sight after years of severely blurred eyesight. We delve into the profound impact this experience had on his faith and the touching story of the donor's mother, whose son's corneas gave Gary the gift of sight. We also touch on and address the controversies around organ donation. #organdonors #organtransplant #faith #healing #eyedisease https://lnkd.in/gfQa2JuG

***PLEASE READ & SHARE*** Chris & Phil's Tough 🏔Trek To Triumph Over Tumours 🧠 We are cousins Chris and Phil, celebrating a turn of decade with our first ever, very challenging 10-day long distance multi-day 200km mountain trek around the Massif des Ecrins in the French Alps. with a grueling average of 1,200m of up and down every day. A total of 12,000m (40,000ft). Everest is 29,000ft as a comparison. Imagine climbing Ben Nevis every day with your rucksack - except it's harder, because every day, we're also going 20km - 8km further. When are we going? 1st Sept Which charities are we helping? We are raising money to help kids and adults fight horrific brain tumours. The funds we raise will go 50%/50% to The Brain Tumour Charity and brainstrust Why? Chris' father-in-law John Lee died of a brain tumour nearly 10 years ago. He's missed every day by family and friends. Also, a courageous boy Chris knows, Kaiden (Kaiden’s Army) is friends with Ravi of Ravi's Dream - both are fighting their tumours. Both boys were in a choir for Ravi's Dream on Britains got talent. We're doing our fundraiser towards his total to continue to bring awareness and hopefully help all those suffering tumours now and help find more effective cures in the near future. Are we training? Yes, yes, yes! Both of us are hitting the hills as much as possible to condition our hearts, minds and legs. But we don't live near huge mountains. So instead we're doing a mix of 20mile hikes with 600m of up/down and gym work (HIIT and incline treadmill). But we know it's going to hurt and the most important thing is not getting injuries to our feet/ankles/knees. How can you help? Please consider donating towards these 2 great charities by clicking below, or share far and wide! #braintumourawareness #braintumour #bgt #goldenbuzzer #bettertobesafethansorry Donate: https://lnkd.in/dSJSyGxx
