Methylprednisolone Acetate HCPCS Realignments Effective April 1, 2024, CMS has deactivated of three methylprednisolone acetate HCPCS codes: J1020, J1030, and J1040. These HCPCS codes are being replaced with a new HCPCS code: J1010 (Injection, methylprednisolone acetate, 1 mg). Effective April 1, J1020, J1030, and J1040 will no longer be billable and providers should use the new HCPCS, J1010, to bill methylprednisolone acetate. It is very common to fill glass containers such as vials with parenteral drugs. These types of drugs that are oxygen sensitive need to be produced and filled with a low concentration of residual oxygen in the headspace of the container.
