The shift from synthetic to natural refrigerants is everywhere. Everyone in our industry is talking about it; every conference and trade show we attend is focused on it. It’s not a new thing. We are just giving it more focus – as it deserves. I see the decision in the US to phase out 85% of HFC usage by 2036 as an important initiative to reduce the use of harmful refrigerants. It makes me think back to a trip I took with my parents 13 years ago. My father, Michael, the founder of HB Products A/S, was going to install the first Vapor Quality Sensor in Los Angeles, the customer wanted to reduce the charge of ammonia, to meet legislation on the US market. 13 years ago, this product was probably ahead of its time. However, my father and the development team never took notice of market interest. If they saw a challenge, they worked to create an innovative solution. And we have done a lot of learning since the first product came out. Fortunately, our industry is beginning to adopt products that can contribute to a better future, as legislation drives the market to shift toward the most energy-efficient and least harmful solutions. With the Vapor Quality Sensor, you can reduce the charge of refrigerant in the system, control the circulation rate, or use it as compressor protection. Latest, we have partnered with Hansen Technologies Corporation on the mission to reduce the refrigerant charge in industrial systems and make them more energy efficient.
