THE UN’S EFFORTS IN COMBATING CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT ON AQUATIC LIFE The United Nations plays a crucial role in combating the effects of climate change, which severely impact aquatic life. Rising sea levels, warming waters, and increased ocean acidification have disrupted marine ecosystems, threatening biodiversity and the livelihoods of those depending on aquatic resources. Through initiatives such as the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN strives to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices that safeguard marine life. Sepik Wetlands & Peatlands Limited is aligned with these global efforts. Our projects focus on the conservation of wetlands, peatlands, and lakes, which serve as essential carbon sinks, while simultaneously protecting aquatic habitats. By developing blue carbon credits, SWPL aims to contribute to both local ecological preservation and the broader global initiative to mitigate climate change. 🇦🇺 Urgent action for the Great Barrier Reef: Fighting coral bleaching and climate change 🐠 The Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, faces unprecedented threats due to rising sea temperatures, pollution, overfishing and coastal development. Coral bleaching, caused by warming oceans and harmful runoff, is pushing this incredible ecosystem to its limits. Around 330 million people depend directly on reefs for protection from storm surges, sources of food and livelihood. To safeguard the reef, WWF-Australia is taking comprehensive action. Through our advocacy, we’ve secured a major win - commercial gill net fishing will be phased out by 2027. We've also made great strides in reducing single-use plastics across Australia. Looking ahead, WWF’s Regenerative Saltwater initiative unites southern hemisphere nations to create safe marine passages, protect coastal communities, and conserve 100 million hectares of ocean. ⚠️To secure the reef’s future, a rapid shift to renewable energy is essential, as reliance on coal, oil and gas intensifies warming ocean temperatures. Learn more about coral bleaching: https://lnkd.in/gwqF-TwA 🌍 Efforts like this are crucial in preventing irreversible tipping points driven by nature loss and climate change, as highlighted in WWF’s #LivingPlanetReport 2024. Most forest projects aren't able to gain access to spaces where significant climate decisions are made, such as COP29 Azerbaijan, and often don't have thousands of dollars to spend when it comes to carbon credit generation and accounting. Yet they are the most vital aspect of global climate action, the people and communities on the ground putting in work everyday to protect, restore, and reforest. We gathered top small scale Open Forest Protocol projects from Italy, Australia, and Germany to share their stories on a recent exclusive webinar, highlighting challenges and hopes: Aldo Beolchini from Riserva Martignanello shared the value of transparent presentation via Open Forest Protocol for small scale projects to access carbon finance and gain credibility 👏 "I wanted to demonstrate there is value in planting trees"- Aldo Beolchini Listen to the webinar while you do the dishes or commute👉https://lnkd.in/gg-44EYX #forest #restoration #reforestation #naturalcapital #nature #afforestation #forestation #trees #carbon #greenfinance #climatefinance #carbonfinance #carboncredits #quality #transparency #climate #climatechange #climateaction #sustainability #environment

What’s at stake for #REDD+ at #COP29 and beyond? #Nature can provide 30% of the solution to climate change but only receives 3% of #climatefinance. Carbon markets — that include nature— can help bridge that financing gap. 🌍 On this Earth Day, let's shift our focus to an often-overlooked hero in the fight against climate change: peatlands 🌿 Did you know these landscapes cover 3% of the Earth's surface and have the potential to store twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests combined? Yet, they face exploitation and lack of awareness. Our recent session at the Market Research Society (MRS) Annual Conference delved into the importance of peatlands and how to communicate their significance effectively! Discover the insights from the conference and how we're reshaping the narrative on peatlands and contributing to climate action in an article by Research Live here: https://hubs.ly/Q02tzFt50 #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Peatlands #NatureRestoration #EarthDay
