I want to share a recent disappointing experience with eBay's authentication program that has left me frustrated and disappointed as a long-time user. --- 1️⃣ First, eBay doesn’t communicate that certain items get automatically opted into their authentication program upon listing. This happens by eBay, after you publish your listing, based on the brand. 2️⃣ Second, eBay does not clearly explain that sizing of a listing must match the description exactly; otherwise, the item gets rejected and immediately returned. As a seller, this was a shock to me - I often will list something as a size if it fits that way, and explain in the description the real size of the item. 2️⃣ When any discrepancy is detected, such as a size (even if the item is verified authentic) there is no opportunity for buyer-seller communication—the item is simply sent back. 3️⃣ Due to the size discrepancy, they immediately rejected my item and returned it to my "registered business address," which I hadn’t updated in over three years (as someone who buys more often than sells), rather than my current shipping address. To make matters worse, I was on vacation and barely caught the single email notification they sent. ----- I'm now out an item that I had previously sold (and made money for!) worth a pretty penny. When I reached out to customer support, I was told that 1) All this was my fault (since my return address was not up to date) and 2) eBay prioritizes buyer protection over sellers, leaving me with no recourse. As someone who has been using the platform for almost 20 years, I’ll continue to buy, but after this, I won’t be selling on eBay again. It’s disheartening to feel undervalued as a customer regardless of the role you play in the marketplace. eBay recently introduced automatic positive feedback for new sellers in the UK. If a buyer doesn’t leave feedback within 7 days and hasn’t reported any issues, eBay leaves a positive review automatically. This is intended to help new sellers build credibility. https://lnkd.in/gUimqv6y As much as I love the idea of helping sellers and assisting them, I feel that automatic reviews might be a bit too much.
