What's your strategy for identifying community needs? ✏️ My strategy includes interacting with community members, figuring out what they need and what resources are around, understanding the area, making a five-year development plan, addressing the most critical needs, working with local leaders and government, and reviewing the plan regularly. The initiatives should be led by actions taken within the community collectives.

In the coming months and years, we will be seeing the effect of these policies on our rural schools and communities. Combining this policy with past years policies that damaged our public schools, we likely will see more school closings, and more districts forced into consolidation. When I began teaching 34 years ago, we had over 430 school districts in the state of Iowa. We’re now down closer to 300. This puts kids on school buses for far too long, and parents drives more difficult to maneuver with work schedules. Many people choose not to live and make a living in areas where the community foundations are eroded. When public schools shut down people move away to be closer to their children schools, leaving businesses in the area without employees or in extreme cases a town, often forcing shuttering of their businesses or moving to a more populated area with a workforce available. We need to protect our small communities and our rural towns, finding innovative ways to draw in businesses for economic development —making sure that those jobs can support families, and making sure our rural infrastructure is up to date.

Absolutely brilliant news for those of us involved in all things community. As part of the Kings Speech it has been announced that The Community Right to Buy bids I have been involved in campaigning for as part of the We're Right Here campaign for is to be included in the new English Devolution Bill announced today. Lots of work to do to make that Bill as good as we want it needs to be. But definitely a big moment for all the areas I work in. This obviously impacts on my work at The Architectural Heritage Fund helping to protect and save heritage buildings for the good of the local community such as all of the great stuff happening at Stretford Public Hall and 100s of other fantastic organisations. It will support the work we are doing what the Heritage development trusts who are taking on the portfolio of buildings in their local areas to bring around significant community led regeneration and similarly the fantastic work being carried out through Platform Places. It will impact the co-ops and community groups, such as those I have been involved with through Coops UK and Stir to Action. Supporting organisations and communities to take on assets that help create spaces that help places thrive, often in the most deprived areas in the country. It will also impact on the work I have been doing around community health through my life as an acupuncturist. enabling more therapists to find space where they can provide affordable to find space where they can provide low cost therapy. The potential to support so many sectors heritage, arts, community, music, housing health and basically all the good things cannot be underestimated. There's obviously a long way to go lots of detail to get right but well done everyone on the campaign for helping get to this point. #SingleParentsSupport faces numerous challenges such as securing stable housing and managing expenses on a single income, while also balancing work and parenting duties.
