What a stellar initiative. In the report "Getting Australia's Health on Track 2024" over 80 Australian experts involved recommended creation of a fund to enable place based and collaborative working across health and social care. They also endorsed the need for social prescribing link workers to be funded as part of team based care in communities supporting the 20% of least advantaged Australians. Seems to have much resonance with this initiative. Rosemary V Calder Stella McNamara Erin Lalor AM
On Wednesday we were joined by leaders from health, civil society, finance and government to launch our new report, ‘Envisaging a Social Prescribing Fund’ at Royal Festival Hall. The report makes the case for a new fund to support community activities, groups and services that benefit people’s health and wellbeing. There was strong support and consensus that a strategic, collaborative approach to funding local groups is urgently required and an appetite to work together to take this forward. We heard from: ➡️ Charlotte Osborn-Forde, NASP Chief Executive ➡️ Andrew Bland, CEO of Southeast London ICB ➡️ Angela Rippon, former Strictly Come Dancing contestant and creator of the Let’s Dance campaign ➡️ Tracy Herd, Director at Movember ➡️ Matt Leach, CEO Local Trust ➡️ Professor Prof. Bola Owolabi, MRCGP MFPH(Hon), FRSPH, Director – National Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Programme, NHS England You can access the report here: https://ow.ly/qsT150Uq2nC

Will 2025 be a watershed moment for Social Prescribing? "Envisaging a Social Prescribing Fund" is the National Academy for Social Prescribing's call for a £1bn fund to scale up social prescribing across England over the next decade. Previously funding has focused on expanding the evidence base of social prescriptions through evaluations, understanding what works, for whom, and in what contexts. With the evidence that social prescriptions improve health and well-being outcomes while relieving pressure on NHS primary care services, this nationwide fund will support the voluntary and community sectors (VCS) in equitably scaling and delivering prescriptions. Looks like we have a real opportunity to reshape social investment and the delivery of community-based health interventions. If you are in this space, I have a question for you: How do we prepare the individual organisations in the voluntary and community sector to manage fund distribution to scale social prescriptions in 2025 and beyond? And if you are wondering...this topic which happens to be the focus of my Capstone research at LIS: The London Interdisciplinary School. Drop me a connection request if you’re working in public health, the VCS sector, social investment, or are generally interested in social prescribing. I'd love to chat. #SocialPrescribing #PublicHealth #SocialInvestment

A ground-breaking report from the UK's National Academy for Social Prescribing proposing a collective impact and shared investment approach to #socialprescribing in the UK via a Social Prescribing Fund that leverages government, business, local government and philanthropic investment and newly developed, existing social prescribing systems. A key convenor role is envisaged for local Integrated Care Partnerships (ICPs) to ensure a truly place-based localised approach. An Australian national roll-out of promising models here could see a similar role for #PrimaryHealthNetworks. As the report says, social prescribing has snowballed in the UK from a niche interest to a mainstream activity with growing evidence of impact and a clear return on investment. This Fund heralds an ambitious and inspiring approach to the next era of social prescribing in a country that is already leading the way. Congratulations Charlotte Osborn-Forde, Jim Burt and team. One of the essential benefits of partnerships between hospitals and community-based organizations is the potential for more efficient use of resources. When organizations collaborate, they can pool their resources and expertise to build stronger neighborhoods and provide better care for the communities they serve. Let’s listen to and include our community members; they are context experts having a unique understanding of the world around them. #community #socialdeterminantsofhealth #healthcare
