🌟 Career Fair Tips for MBA Success 🌟 As we gear up to support our MBA students heading to the Prospanica National Conference, I'm excited to share some of the strategies we've been using to help them make the most of these career-building opportunities. For students, a career fair can be transformative—and a bit overwhelming—so here are some key tips we’ve been focusing on: 🎯 Align Your Questions with Company Goals Encourage students to ask insightful questions that demonstrate their understanding of a company's strategic objectives. For example, instead of just inquiring about job responsibilities, they can ask, “How does this role support your goal to expand in [specific market]?” This approach shows they’ve done their research and are thinking like potential team members. 🗂️ Create a Follow-Up Plan in Advance A thoughtful follow-up can set candidates apart. We advise students to draft tailored messages referencing specific points from their conversations. For instance, they might say, “I enjoyed our discussion about your growth plans in [market/area]. I’d love to stay connected to explore how I can contribute to that vision.” Specificity in follow-ups makes a lasting impression! 📲 Leverage Social Media During the Conference Students are encouraged to connect with recruiters on LinkedIn within 24 hours of meeting them, ideally mentioning a highlight from their conversation. Additionally, sharing reflections or insights from the conference on social media, while tagging companies of interest, can enhance visibility and engagement. Best of luck to our MBA candidates heading to Prospanica! We're so proud of their drive to learn and connect, and we can’t wait to see the results of their hard work. 💼✨ #CareerFairTips #Prospanica #MBACareers #UGATerryMBA #NetworkingSuccess Full-Time MBA Program - University of Georgia Terry College of Business

From Campus Placements to Career Fairs: A New Perspective on Job Hunting 💬 Coming from a background where campus placements play such a central role in shaping one’s career, the concept of a career fair felt refreshingly new and distinct. Campus placements are a well-oiled machine, with companies lining up to offer jobs right on university grounds, often with a focus on mass recruitment. However, the Grad Ireland and DCU Career Fair opened my eyes to a different approach, one that fosters more direct interaction between students and potential employers, offering a broader and more diverse range of opportunities. Unlike the regimented process of campus placements, career fairs provide a more open, interactive environment where students can explore various industries, engage directly with recruiters, and learn about career paths that might not have been on their radar. It’s a setting that promotes meaningful conversations, not just about job openings, but also about company culture, career development, and industry trends. Beyond the information, the relaxed yet professional atmosphere of these fairs—where workshops, seminars, and panel discussions complement the traditional networking—was quite an eye-opener. And, of course, the added bonus of leaving with some quality swag didn’t hurt either! From tech and finance to consulting and engineering, companies at these fairs don’t just come to recruit—they come to build relationships, expand their brand presence, and provide real insights into the opportunities they offer. In comparison to the somewhat high-pressure environment of campus placements, career fairs felt more like an exploration, giving students the freedom to navigate different sectors and find roles that truly resonate with their skills and ambitions. It was a refreshing change of pace, and an opportunity to approach career planning with a broader perspective. #DCU #careerfair #gradIreland #learning #network

Students - now that the Fall semester is officially here, there are a couple things you NEED to be prioritizing if you’re going to be job searching this year: 1. Get your #resume ready for applications ASAP. Top employers are already posting jobs and going to be reaching out to candidates soon, so you need to be prepared for when they do. 2. Create/refine your list of target #employers so you can approach applications strategically. 3. #Connect with individuals at your target employers now. Don’t wait until the career fair cause you want to be on their radar before they step foot on campus. This might also mean re-establishing a connection with someone you met previously. 4. Start researching the upcoming #careerfair now. Mark your calendar (for Sept. 17th if you’re #SCM), communicate with your faculty if you have class at that time, and create an action plan for how you’re going to tackle such a big event. 5. Set aside time to #apply for jobs BEFORE the fair. Nothing is better at showing an employer you’re serious than mentioning that not only have you done research on them but you’ve also already taken the time to apply to their open position(s). I know the Summer just ended, but career fairs are approaching fast, and you don’t want them to catch you by surprise. Also, shameless plug that if you need support on these things, you can find the SCM career team at Walk-in Wednesdays every week :)

They said career fairs were obsolete. But something surprising happened. Virtual tools didn’t replace them. They made them more essential. Human connection still matters. A handshake. Eye contact. Spontaneous conversations. That’s the magic virtual can't match. But combine them? You get reach and realness. Abode perfectly bridges this. Forums set the stage, Career fairs make the connection real. Together, they build bonds that last. That's why Hybrid is winning. It’s not about choosing virtual or in-person. It's about using both to drive deeper engagement. Ready to improve your candidate experience? DM. #CareerFairs #HybridRecruitment #GenZEngagement

An idea that has been ruminating in my head as of late, is thinking through the pro and cons of community colleges concurrently hosting their open house event and career fair. If this is already happening, I hope someone in my network can share what institutions may be doing this. If it is not happening, I hope community colleges would consider doing so. This strategy can bring about several benefits, particularly in terms of workforce development, #community participation, and recruitment of post-traditional learners. By providing a platform for students to explore career opportunities and network with employers, community colleges can better prepare their students for the #workforce. This helps #students to explore different career paths, network with industry professionals, and gain valuable insights into the skills and qualifications required in the job market. Combining career fairs with open house events can enhance community participation. This dual event can attract not only prospective students but also local community members and employers. This increased involvement from the community can create valuable partnerships and collaborations, leading to more internship and job opportunities for students. Hosting career fairs on the same day as open house events can facilitate the recruitment of post-traditional learners. These students, such as working adults or returning students, often have specific career goals and may benefit greatly from networking opportunities offered at career fairs. By integrating career-focused activities into open house events, community colleges can attract and support these diverse learners. There are challenges that may arise from hosting career fairs alongside open house events. Coordinating two major events on the same day may require significant logistical planning and resources, which could strain the college's capacity, especially if they are already fiscally strapped or don't have the physical space to facilitate two events. Although there are challenges, I think it might be worth exploring as it has the potential to bridge the gap between #HigherEd and #WorkforceDevelopment. Anything to better serve #students should at least be considered. #HigherEd #CommunityCollege #Recruitment #Workforce #Career #CareerAdvising #Advising #Access #HigherEducation #College #PostTraditional

To all the Career Fair haters, Career Fair prep takes TIME, time that one must choose to invest in their career. I would suggest starting your prep at least 2 weeks in advance to be effective during the fastest 6 hours of your semester. Feel free to share your opinions or add to this post through comments about your tips and tricks. Let’s get into it! 💡Create a list of 10 most desirable companies out of the employers list available. Order the companies from most desirable to the 10th desirable one. 💡Start at the top of the list and research the company. Bare minimum is to find out what service/product they create, what some ongoing initiatives are, if you are an international student, whether the company offers sponsorship. 💡Look for positions that match your interest, write down why you like this position and what you can do from your end to add value. Write down each technical requirement you meet. 💡Create a script along these lines: Hi, i’m interested in applying my [enter field name] skills in [insert position] position at [insert company] because [insert everything you love about the company] and I’d love to walk you through how I meet the requirements of the position. 💡If you have multiple positions of interest, bring them up. If the employer is not familiar gently ask for being redirected within the company and ask them about their role and show genuine thirst for learning about them. 💡Repeat above for each of the 10 companies. 💡Write down your script on paper in the order of the companies you will stop by at the career fair. To avoid wasting time, mark the companies on the map provided. 💡Show up to the fair as early as you can (I was the first person to arrive at the Micron booth and Charles Pendleton gave me a chance). I stay till the fair ends, because you never know who you might cross paths with. 💡Be confident, attempt to sound conversational while being professional (Employers get tired too, entertain them a bit, break the boredom) 💡Respectfully find a way to stay connected with whom you’ve spoken, even if things don’t go the way you expect, there is a lot of learning that’s possible through making new connections. 💡Smile If you’d like more details, feel free to reach out. #jobsearch #crackingthecareerfair #internationalstudents #getemployed
