Today is National Sorry Day, a day to Acknowledge the strength of the Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. National Sorry Day is followed by National Reconciliation Week, which runs from 27 May to 3 June. This year's theme, "Now More Than Ever," reminds us all that the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must continue. It emphasises the need to tackle the unfinished business of Reconciliation. #NationalSorryDay serves as a reminder that historical injustice remains an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and peoples. At Royal Far West, we are dedicated to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and advocating for equal access to healthcare for our First Nations families. We are passionately committed to Reconciliation and to ensuring we provide culturally safe and accountable health, education, and disability services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, organisations, and communities. Today and every day, it’s important to recognise the need for continued action to right the wrongs of the past. Let’s all commit to truth-telling and Reconciliation, honouring the resilience of the Stolen Generations and working together towards a just and equitable future. #TruthTelling #Reconciliation #RoyalFarWest #ReconciliACTION Artwork by Frances Belle Parker. Reparations War (Eliminating the threat) Perhaps, needless to say, double talk has already entered the reparations picture. Descendants of slaves are already being squeezed out of being recognized because we are not accurately identified, which means the slave nation won't be compensated. Instead of it being restitution to descendants of American Slaves for their fore parents being enslaved, it is now simply "reparations for slavery." If we are not properly recognized and strongly organized, who knows what segments of the population might collect reparations for slavery. www.Slaves-USA.com

Today, we stand united to recognize a dark truth that still shadows our world: slavery is not a thing of the past. Millions of people globally—women, men, and children—continue to endure forced labor, human trafficking, child exploitation, and other forms of modern-day slavery. This day, established by the United Nations, reminds us of our shared responsibility to fight these injustices. Slavery takes many forms, from bonded labor and forced marriage to exploitation in domestic work, agriculture, and industries worldwide. It strips individuals of their freedom, dignity, and basic human rights. Ending modern slavery requires awareness, action, and advocacy. We must support policies that protect vulnerable communities, hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure that survivors receive justice and support. Every voice matters in amplifying this cause. Take a moment today to educate yourself, share resources, and stand in solidarity with those still fighting for their freedom. Together, we can build a world where exploitation has no place, and freedom is a reality for all. Let’s raise our voices to say: Slavery has no place in our world. 🌍✊ Source: https://lnkd.in/gHgDj3ME #EndSlaveryNow #AbolishSlavery #FreedomForAll #HumanRightsMatter #StopHumanTrafficking #ModernSlaveryAwareness #JusticeForAll #DignityAndFreedom #NoToSlavery #BreakTheChains #GlobalFreedom #HumanDignity #SpeakOutAgainstSlavery #TogetherForJustice #endexploitation

Second Chances and Clemency: The Biggest Step in the Right Direction, by Governor Murphy On Juneteenth, Governor Murphy signed Executive Order 362, which represents a significant advancement in executive clemency and criminal justice reform. This is a pioneering advancement towards a more equitable criminal justice system. Creating a separate Clemency Advisory Board would specifically guarantee a more equitable evaluation procedure for individuals seeking a second opportunity. This initiative extends beyond the mere act of releasing individuals from incarceration. It concerns providing them with a genuine chance to reconstruct their lives. People with criminal records, often due to circumstances beyond their control, face immense hurdles in finding housing, employment, and reintegrating into society. Clemency has the power to eliminate the stigma associated with a previous error and enable individuals to be evaluated solely on their abilities and contributions to their communities. Executive Order 362 has the potential to unlock the potential of countless individuals. Envision the favorable influence on families and communities when individuals are able to utilize their abilities and aptitudes without the weight of a criminal record. We need to move beyond a system that judges people solely based on their past mistakes. It's time to consider the root causes of crime—mental health, addiction, and poverty—and offer a path to redemption. Countless people with criminal records are already making positive contributions, and clemency can empower them to do even more. Let's use this as a springboard for more comprehensive criminal justice reform. Let's create a system that welcomes offenders back into society and focuses on giving them second chances. #clemency #secondchances #criminaljusticereform
“The New Jersey Office of the Public Defender supports Governor Murphy’s transformative clemency initiative which embodies the very essence of justice, compassion, and rehabilitation,” said Public Defender Jennifer Sellitti. “Through the introduction of a clemency advisory board and the expansion of commutation application categories, he has created more opportunities for providing those in our community with a second chance and a path toward healing. As public defenders, we understand all too well the way in which excessive sentences have devastated families and disparately impacted our most vulnerable communities. This initiative stands as a beacon of hope for those affected, empowering them to rebuild their lives and achieve brighter futures.” #NJOPD #NewJersey #PublicDefenders #Clemency
