With wind turbines requiring 3 metric tons of copper per MW of installed capacity, it's critical to embrace the reuse of this valuable resource. For context: mining 1 ton of copper generates more than a ton of CO2 , while recycling copper reduces those emissions by 65%. By recycling copper from electronic scrap and refining it into reusable copper cathode, they’re demonstrating how circularity can help power the future.
Cyclic Materials is thrilled to announce a multi-year offtake agreement with global natural resources leader Glencore to supply high-quality, recycled copper from our operations to their facilities in Quebec, Canada. This partnership represents a major step forward in our mission to build a circular supply chain for #criticalmaterials. By recycling copper from electronic scrap and refining it into reusable copper cathode, we’re collectively advancing sustainable practices essential to the #energytransition. "We are excited to be partnering with Glencore on the recycling of copper materials. This is a significant milestone in establishing key partners to purchase our recycled materials and close the loop for all critical materials we will produce,” said Ahmad Ghahreman, co-founder and CEO of Cyclic Materials. “We’re eager to further partner with Glencore and expand our offtake agreements for the primary materials we will recover, prior to ramping up our operations to global commercial scale, opening new facilities in the US and in Europe to better serve our partners where they are.” Read the full announcement: https://heyor.ca/XLo5fg #CopperRecycling #CircularEconomy

As many of you know, we are working closely with Norwegian aluminium producer Norsk Hydro on a low-carbon technology roadmap. Now, I can announce that we are elevating this partnership by launching a new “Corridor” program to support the long-term development of communities along the aluminium supply chain in the Amazon. To make this happen, both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate with local NGOs. By doing so, we want to focus on three goals: the decarbonisation of our products, the promotion of human rights and the focus on more sustainability over the vehicles' entire life cycle. The “Corridor” program allows us to connect all three and it has the potential to push the vertical integration of our supply chain to a new level. The Corridor coalition aims to create a socially positive impact along the 244-km bauxite slurry pipeline operated by Hydro, which runs through seven municipalities in the State of Pará. The goal is to engage local communities in the aluminium supply chain and empower them to improve their economic, ecological and social wellbeing. They will identify and prioritize projects, ensuring they directly benefit their regions – and thereby creating value on a longer scale. At our partners side we will support the project governance in its efforts. This is further evidence of our sustainable business strategy in action. #MercedesBenz #Sustainability #Aluminium

“Maersk names fifth large #methanol #dualfuel #boxship in Felixstowe” #VESSELS October 10, 2024, - Fatima Bahtić “Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller Maersk has held a naming ceremony for the fifth 16,000 TEU #methanoldualfuelcontainership in Felixstowe, UK.” “The new methanol-enabled ships are at the core of Maersk’s ambitious #decarbonization plans as #lowemissionmethanol is said to reduce #greenhousegas (#GHG) emissions by 65% to 90% compared to conventional #fossilfuels such as #bunkeroil . This depends on the feedstock and production process of the methanol, calculated on a life cycle basis, according to Maersk.” https://lnkd.in/eHBGgMhq? 🚀Zacua Ventures investment announcement - we are excited to announce our backing of CemVision, the most advanced next-gen green cement technology available! It's a pleasure to join forces with the talented team at CemVision including Oscar Hållén, Max Larsson von Reybekiel, Claes Kollberg, and Paul Sandberg, as well as our excellent co-investors BackingMinds – Susanne Najafi and Sara Resvik- and Polar Structure AB– Robin Ivroth, alongside existing investors EQT Foundation, Norrsken, and Breakthrough Energy . 💡While it might be common knowledge among our industry peers, it's worth noting that #concrete is the second most consumed material globally, following water. Unfortunately, it's also one of the largest #carbon emitters, primarily due to the inclusion of #cement, a fine powder acting as a binder, which accounts for approximately 8% of all carbon pollution 👀Last year alone, the world produced over 4 billion metric tons of cement, resulting in about 600kg of CO2 emissions for every ton produced👀 🌱CemVision team is re-inventing cement: replacing everything that’s bad about it with a product that is economical, circular, environmentally friendly, and technically superior. Their proprietary technology utilizes industrial by-products from steelmaking and mining – essentially #recycled industrial waste – instead of virgin limestone, and #electrifies the heating production process turning cement into a sustainable material.
Great news! We have closed our seed round – the largest known seed round in the global cement industry and a crucial step for us to accelerate our efforts in the near term. Cement’s 8% of global CO2 emissions were recently considered ‘hard-to-abate’, as in difficult to reduce with available technology. We’re debunking that notion, by putting a truly resource-efficient, circular, and high-performing cement on the market, with an ultra-low CO2 footprint. Not just making cement’s emissions evidently abatable, but also one of the most cost-efficient ways for companies to lower their carbon footprint. Not in five or ten years, but here and now. A big thank you to BackingMinds and Polar Structure AB for your continued support, and to Zacua Ventures for joining our efforts to decarbonize the built environment and enable a green society at speed. More to come soon! Go team! Claes Kollberg, PAUL SANDBERG, Oscar Hållén, Max Larsson von Reybekiel, Ulrik Henriksson, Hedvig Axberg, Caroline de la Motte, Pedro Cardoso, Fred Isaksson, jesper pettersson, Helena Göranson, Sara Brodin, Victoria Bäck, Mats Åhlin, Emanuel Onoszko
