🎶 Music matters in group exercise, and the latest research from Brunel University, led by Dr. Costas Karageorghis, reaffirms its significance. Synchronous beats not only reduce perceived exertion by up to 12% but also boost exercise effects by up to 15%! 🎵 As we delve deeper into the role of music in fitness trends, it's clear that quality tunes are non-negotiable, especially in cycling classes, where 86% of respondents prioritize it. With Millennials and Gen Z dominating the fitness market, satisfying their preference for great music is key. 🔊 However, it's essential to strike a balance. While music can enhance the workout experience, poor selections can deter members. That's why Les Mills invests heavily in curating the perfect soundtrack for our programs. 🎧 We're committed to ensuring every beat aligns seamlessly with your workout, motivating you to push harder and achieve your goals. But we also recognize the importance of catering to diverse preferences, offering solutions like earplugs for those sensitive to loud music. 🎶 What's your take on music in group exercise? Fascinating read! I have long been interested in the power of music, not only to make a workout more fun, but its ability to motivate and push us harder. I conducted my own (completely non-scientific!) experiment with a routine both with and without music. Surprisingly, I found myself doing more burpees when accompanied by techno music in the background. I find a beat almost 'locks me in' (hence I loved choreographed classes so much), and can sort of 'carry me through'. You don't move - the music moves you right?!? I can get frustrated if the music is too quiet in a class, because for me it's 50% of the workout. One of the big things I admire about Les Mills is the music selections. My favourite Les Mills programme is GRIT, and part of the reason is due to the music. In fact, I have been known to play out episodes of GRIT on Les Mills+ just for the music! Even though that is not a choreographed programme, it still adds to the atmosphere of the session; pushing me through. When I created my own pilot workout, I spent a lot of time on the music choices - they were integral to the experience. It takes time to choroegraph classes to music - but the results are worth it!
