🔹 Integrating Aesthetics and Safety: A Glass Installation Project in Milan 🔹 I am excited to share a project I have had the privilege to work on: the creation of a glass installation to protect and showcase the frescoed ceilings of a historic palace in the heart of Milan. 🔸 The Initial Challenge: In a historic courtyard hosting high-fashion showrooms, the palace features beautiful 19th-century frescoed ceilings. Due to the age of the building, the ceilings were at risk of collapse in the event of an earthquake. Initially, the frescoes were covered by a net, which compromised their aesthetic appeal and did not provide optimal safety. 🔸 The Glass Solution: We opted for a special anti-reflective glass installation designed by Santambrogiomilano. This advanced technology not only allows for the perfect perception of the original colors of the paintings by significantly reducing light reflections, but also ensures the safety of the people working in the palace. The glass is tempered and laminated with a specific PVB layer, ensuring robustness and clarity. 🔸 Seismic Safety and Load Testing: During the construction phase, rigorous load tests were conducted. Various weights were hung from the glass to verify its load-bearing capacity. The glass structure distributes the weight towards the edges, preventing central collapse—a critical feature in case of an earthquake. This innovative solution ensures that, in the event of a ceiling collapse, the debris would be contained, allowing for safe evacuation. 🔸 Advanced Functionalities: The anti-reflective treatment of the glass is crucial for maintaining the visibility of the frescoes under different lighting conditions, particularly from the ground up. This treatment minimizes reflections and ensures that the artwork can be appreciated in its true form. The solution harmonizes functionality and aesthetics, setting a new standard for integrating modern technology with historical preservation. 🔸 Conclusion: This project exemplifies how contemporary technology can seamlessly blend with historical preservation. The use of advanced glass technology by Santambrogiomilano provides an innovative solution that marries seismic safety, functionality, and aesthetic integrity. This historic courtyard in Milan now stands as a testament to how modern engineering can protect and enhance our cultural heritage, allowing the stunning frescoes to be appreciated in their full glory while ensuring the safety of everyone inside. . . . . . . . #Architecture #Design #Innovation #Restoration #HistoricalPreservation #Sustainability #Technology #Safety #architecturalprojects
