Our image selection today comes from smartseller, the joint venture founded in 2020 between casualfood GmbH and Gebr. Heinemann, as it launches two new retail-to-food concepts for the small to medium-sized airport market. The ‘Little’ concept, introduced for the first time at Ljubljana Airport (Non-Schengen), adds a new dimension to the smartseller portfolio. It is designed to blend duty free, food & beverage, convenience plus other essentials in smaller spaces of 50-200sq m. ‘Little Slovenia’ features, retail, F&B and local souvenirs at Ljubljana Airport, and includes a bar with seating. Who else was dumbfounded finding out Michelin Stars are given out by the tire company? I thought it was so silly - why would a tire company get in the business of restaurants? So I did some research (aka spent 5 mins on Google and Reddit) Come to find out the Michelin Guide was a LEAD GEN to get more people to buy tires — that exploded into a cultural phenomenon that made Carmy Berzatto build The Bear — Get this There were so few cars (around 3000) in 1900 and so business was not booming for Michelin. They ingeniously saw the task at hand: if we want more people to buy tires, we need more people driving cars. So let’s give them somewhere to drive to 💡 They put together a guide with directions to the best restaurants in the surrounding areas and rated them on 3 stars: ⭐️good place to stop if you’re passing it ⭐️⭐️make a detour to try this food ⭐️⭐️⭐️worth making a trip to visit this place This was 1900!! That’s over a century ago. The Michelin brothers were genius marketers and strategists. Instead of trying to educate people on tires and why theirs were “the best”, they gave people what they wanted - good food recommendations. You don’t buy a car for good tires, you buy one to hit the next tastiest restaurant. I know that’s 95% of the reason I get in the car.
