COMMON MISTAKES IN SOLAR 2. TOO MUCH ASSURANCE FROM THE ENGINEERS Some Engineers because of hunger for quick money 💰, promise the client too much. They might tell the client that a 1KVA Solar System can power Fridge, Washing Machine, Water 💦 Pumping Machine whereas the design cannot power such load. Some Solar System break down as a result of overloading and some can generate fire 🔥. Some Engineers are like Politicians that make promises that they can not fulfill. As a client whenever you want to Setup your Solar System, look for a good engineer to do your installation for you. Make your findings about the Engineer /Company if possible before you waste your hard earned money 💰. Solar no hard, na people dey follow short cuts. #renewableenergy #solar #alternativepowersupply

Thats why the indusrty needs to be regulated. If NEMSA can stand up to protect the customers, then only certified engineers will handle solar installations. There are just too many quacks in the space. I met a chap who studied education installing solar for someone. I was wondering "what a society"

Very true. And so many clients are getting really disappointed.

Solar really works perfectly, but people need to understand that design to specification is really critical, otherwise the lifespan is shortened.. Some installers make outrageous promises because of profit and even clients also look for the cheaper alternative...etc

Your are very correct; solar clients are getting wiser now.

Sometimes when clients reject my proposal because of pricing, I felt disappointed and begin to think that is there anything that I am not saying right during my sales presentation. Nevertheless, I prioritised my peace of mind over the project.

I must correct the use of the term "Engineers". An Engineer is someone with a minimum certificate or degree in engineering. I find it really appalling that a lot of people even professionals in the field can't different between a technician or an Engineer. Over the years, both on and off the field, I have seen people who studied courses not related to electrical engineering or have any basic knowledge on engineering go into the renewable energy sector as a means to make quick money and exploit the large vacuum that exist in this space because of our energy deficit as a country. Such people who range from company's CEOs, Operational Mangers, Installers pay little or no attention to Installation standards, system design or sizing, quality checks and controls etc. but are only focus on making profits hence the increasing rot now experienced in the renewable energy sector.

Don’t make a sales people mistake an Engineer’s mistake. An Engineer who over promises doesn’t deserve that title.

What do you expect in a society where unemployment is on the increase. The industry needs to be regulated and awareness created as well.
