Engineering The Astra Lumina Trail When Fever Up envisioned Astra Lumina, a fully immersive, story-driven experience at the historic Abington Art Center, they turned to Carroll Engineering Corporation's. Our Planning & Site Design Team lead by John L. Koutsouros, P.E. and Survey Team lead by Gary Zanolini helped to bring their dream to life. Through innovative planning, sustainable design, and regulatory expertise, we delivered a 0.80-mile trail that captivates visitors without disrupting the natural beauty of the site. This project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering transforms visions into unforgettable experiences. Great lighting design never disappoints. Last week, during my visit to Dutch Design Week, I was reminded of the impact lighting can have. Eindhoven, a city that always connects me to lighting for obvious reasons, did it again. Walking through the exhibition at the Kazerne, I enjoyed the beautifully programmed light ripples (see video), showcasing how lighting can create warmth, comfort, and subtle guidance. It sets the scene, shapes our emotions, and enhances our surroundings in ways we often take for granted. This reminded me why I transitioned into healthcare: to innovate not only with technology, but to enhance the human experience. It’s not only about fundamentally rethinking processes and tech (though they’re crucial), but also about creating environments where employees and patients feel safe, supported, and cared for. Lighting plays a critical, often understated, role in this transformation. Just a personal insight I like to share in regard to that human side of innovation! Come and see us in Milan! We are very happy to announce that we will be showing our project “Everything Exists / Future narratives & artifacts of tomorrow” at Milan Design Week 2024. Together with the fabulous gravity GmbH The Foresight Academy we have developed a unique project that demonstrates the potential of translating foresight knowledge into actionable products and day-to-day near future objects. It also gives a starting point for rethinking product development and business rationale. To conceive new products, we must anticipate the contours of the future. Our aesthetic sensibilities evolve to guide our preferences, behaviors, and practice. What stands the test of time? What seamlessly adapts to our changing needs? Which things do we leave behind? In this pivotal epoch when our actions have planet-sized consequences, the convergence of foresight and design wields transformative potential, enabling more judicious choices by those who shape the world, based on compelling, future-informed arguments.
