The Bygone Era of Legacy BI - Dashboards are Dead! If you've ever felt like you’re stuck in a time loop every time you open a dashboard, you're not alone. Dashboards, those flashy displays of KPIs and metrics, were supposed to be the knight in shining armor for data-driven decisions. Yet, here we are, years later, still shackled by their limitations. A stagnant adoption rate of 30%, an average report turnaround time of 4.5 days, and poor data experiences reported by 84% of frontline business workers make it painfully clear: DASHBOARDS are DEAD! ☠ Unpacking the Hidden Costs of Legacy BI Let’s get real for a moment. When was the last time your data team celebrated a dashboard? More likely, they’re cursing the operational nightmare it has become. Reports show that 92% of data workers spend their time on tasks outside their roles, while 68% of data teams lack time to implement profit-driving ideas. Your team isn't just buried in data—they’re drowning in it. Consider this: 50% of your data team’s headcount budget is wasted on remedial tasks instead of actual data analysis. Imagine hiring a Michelin-star chef only to have them spend their days peeling potatoes. The hidden costs of maintaining these dashboards extend far beyond just financials—they’re a productivity black hole. Read more in the link to CDO TIMES independent research on how you can leverage AI to achieve productivity gains and ultimately hand the keys over to your business teams to ask questions about your data and get petabyte scale data insight on an individual level. #aianalytics #aidriveninsights #cdo #datastrategy #cdotimes #AIstrategy #digitalstrategy

The power of Data Visualization. Did you know that most business decisions are made without Data driven insights? Consider the amount of data we have today. Only a few businesses use data analytics to inform their decisions. The rest rely on intuition, personal experience, assumption and guess work. It shouldn't be so. Let's explore the importance of data driven decision making, and discover how data visualization can transform your business. First of all, let's look at the definition. What is Data Visualization? Data visualization is the process of creating graphical representation of data to enable you to understand and communicate information and patterns in a simple way. It allows you to interpret and analyze data quickly and efficiently. For your visualization to be effective you must have clear objectives. It'll guide you to communicate insights. When I was learning Excel, I remembered the first dashboard I created……anytime I looked at it, I just laughed. Thank God for growth. The dashboard was too complex. I played with colours. I thought having complex visuals would mean better insights. I know better now. It's not about creating a pretty chart. It might look good to you, but what about others? We have different types of data visualization. Here are a few. Bar charts Line charts Pie charts Scatter plots Maps Interactive dashboard and reports. Remember, the key to effective data visualization is to choose the right type for your data, message and audience. When creating a dashboard. Make it simple. Don't use too many colors. Make it interactive. Choose the right visualization for the data and don't forget to label appropriately. In conclusion, Data visualization is a powerful tool for unlocking insights, driving decisions and telling stories with data. Below is one of the data I visualized using Power BI, the data obtained from AMDARI Do you need help turning data into business decisions? Dm let's get started. I use data to develop solutions to meet your organization's unique needs. #My3MTT #3MTTWeeklyReflection #3MTTAnambra #datavisualization #dataanalyst #thoughtleadership

🌟 **Unlock the Power of Data Visualization!** 🌟 Decision-makers face intense pressure to process information quickly. Raw numbers and spreadsheets can be overwhelming, but data visualization changes the game. By transforming complex data into easily digestible images, decision-makers can understand information faster and more effectively. Why is data visualization so powerful? The brain processes images in just 13 milliseconds and 60,000 times faster than text. This means quicker insights and better decisions. Data visualization techniques like charts, graphs, and dashboards help identify trends, monitor KPIs, and improve communication. They simplify forecasts, enhance strategic planning, and boost productivity by freeing up time for action. Transform your decision-making and drive better outcomes with data visualization! 📈✨ #DataVisualization #BusinessIntelligence #StrategicPlanning #DataDriven #IntegralNetworks

I think data dashboards receive a lot of criticism from the wrong perspective. There are some fair points being made about organisations with ungovernable numbers of dashboards that don’t benefit – that’s understood. But the question of whether a dashboard is a suitable solution for you is context dependent. A dashboard is not and should not be treated as the end, in and of itself, of data management and analytics – it’s a means to an end. Setting a goal to produce dashboards, without identifying why it and if it’s appropriate, is not going to help. As with having KPIs based on the numbers of dashboards you produce. But honestly speaking, who’s fault is it that there are tons of useless dashboards? Did I miss something about visualization tools developing consciousness and forcing humans to build useless dashboards? The problem lies with people’s understanding and viral marketing. As for the latter, there’s a considerable amount of conscious and unconscious psychological imprinting on data analysts and business leaders. For example, how many architectural diagrams, data pipelines etc. do you see with dashboards at the end of the equation? How many data analytics courses finish up with a dashboard project? Certainly, this gives the impression the main area data value is realised is ‘the dashboard’. So, here’s my advice to data leaders: · Work on increasing the data literacy of managers and the C-suite, helping them to understand data value realisation, the different means of achieving this and the importance of context-setting. · Work on data analysts to help them to understand how to build use cases strongly tied to business goals, understand how to communicate data and get them to challenge themselves (e.g. is this dashboard really necessary or could you do something else) in deciding which means to take. It’s better, in my opinion, rather than talking about why dashboards are 'terrible' and 'problematic', to talk about best practices, when to implement them and what other alternatives we have to broaden people’s perspectives. So, discussion for my network: can we come up with some examples, principles and tips of when and how to use dashboards? Also, what alternatives should we use dashboards?
