Kham and Jai live in the urban slums of Chang Mai in Thailand. As the children of migrant labourers who left everything behind to look for work in the construction sector, they survived with very little. Invisible and alone, their early days were mostly passed in fear and silence while their parents were away. A few years have gone by since then and now life looks brighter as a red minibus arrives at the camp to take them to the Baan Dek Foundation nursery. It wasn’t easy for them to open up. It took time to make friends, learn how to play and enjoy a meal in company. It’s still hard, at times, to make sense of the world. The link below takes you to “A day in the life” of Kham and Jay, as told by the Baan Dek social workers who are helping the two children get their childhood back. The photos are by the amazing Ben Buckland. https://lnkd.in/dnh9ydMm #ADayInTheLife #nursery #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #ChangMai

I had the distinct honor of serving as a panelist in the first debate of the 2024 Buleleng Regent and Deputy Regent Election, a debate centered on the crucial theme of advancing public welfare through improved public services. This debate held special significance for me, not only because of the critical subject matter but also because I am originally from Buleleng. Having a deep personal connection to the region made this experience even more meaningful, as the future of the community is close to my heart. As a panelist, my role was to pose thought-provoking questions that challenged the candidates to articulate clear and actionable strategies for improving public services. The focus was on key areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and government transparency. I carefully crafted questions that aimed to bring out the candidates’ specific plans for ensuring that all citizens, especially those in more remote areas, have access to high-quality services that promote their well-being. What made this debate particularly engaging was the way each candidate presented their ideas on how to improve public services in Buleleng. From modernizing healthcare and expanding educational opportunities to improving road networks and ensuring transparency in government operations, the candidates offered diverse and thoughtful solutions. The exchange of ideas was dynamic, with a shared commitment to bettering the lives of Buleleng’s residents. #ngurahparikesit #udayana #fhunud #pilkada #kpu #pilkadabuleleng

The Sandwich Generation Struggle: How Filipino Families Can Plan Ahead The concept of the "sandwich generation" - adults caring for both their children and aging parents - resonates deeply with many Filipinos. Our strong sense of pakikisama (cooperation) and utang na loob (debt of gratitude) compels us to support our families, but it can also lead to financial and emotional strain. Here's how Filipino families can plan for a smoother sandwich generation experience: - Open Communication: Start conversations about finances and healthcare wishes early with both your parents and your children. Discussing expectations openly can help everyone feel prepared. - Financial Planning: Prioritize saving for retirement and emergencies. Consider long-term care options for your parents and explore educational funding options for your children. - Shared Responsibility: If you have siblings, discuss dividing caregiving duties and financial contributions. Explore government programs for senior citizen support and scholarships. - Support Systems: Don't be afraid to seek help! Consider hiring part-time caregivers, joining support groups, or utilizing adult daycare services. By providing practical advice and fostering open communication, we can empower Filipino families to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the sandwich generation. Let's work together to Be A Blessing for a brighter financial future for Filipino families! #financialplanning #sandwichgeneration #philippines #family #caregiving #BeABlessing

The recent tragedy at Darussalam orphanage in Tangerang (Jakarta), where children suffered sexual abuse, is sadly one of numerous cases this year. This highlights the deep flaws in Indonesia’s orphanage system. While labelled as “safe havens,” many of these institutions become sites of exploitation and harm. It’s time to stop perpetuating this cycle. The Westerlaken Foundation’s stoporphanages.org campaign advocates for closing orphanages and transitioning to family-based care. Children thrive in environments filled with love and support, not in institutional settings where they are vulnerable to abuse. Indonesia must act swiftly to end institutional care, focusing on foster care and family reunification as sustainable alternatives. Let’s close orphanages, ensure children grow up in safe, loving homes, and provide them the protection they deserve. #StopOrphanages #WesterlakenFoundation #FamilyBasedCare

I've observed a notable trend in social media posts reflecting the attitudes of educated individuals towards the general public, including those who are less literate. What concerns me most is the increasing population, which necessitates government action to ensure the proper upbringing of children into responsible citizens. It is essential to recognize that development begins in childhood, where we must instill the importance of good manners, an understanding of fundamental life principles, and an appreciation for the contributions of dedicated community members. Promoting order and peace should start within families and extend to the broader community, facilitated by parents, elders, teachers, and government officials through awareness initiatives. Introducing a new subject in primary schools could be beneficial, focusing on the traditional ways of life that our grandparents experienced, which would help maintain social structures and counteract misconceptions arising from virtual communities. As we transition from real to virtual social interactions, it is evident that many in Papua New Guinea are not fully prepared to navigate modern technology effectively. I firmly believe that equipping our children with this knowledge will help them understand the true value of life in the context of Papua New Guinea, fostering respect for elders and empowering them to become the leaders our nation needs for a brighter future. #Happy49thIndependancePNG #SocialMediaTrend #Education #SocialDevelopment #Welfare

Things I learned from #VirtualArendalsuka part 1045: 👶 #Barnehageforliket 2.0 builds on the landmark 2003 agreement that transformed early childhood education in Norway, significantly expanding access to affordable and high-quality kindergarten (barnehage) services. 🌱 This new initiative focuses on further improving the quality of kindergartens through better training for staff, enhanced curricula, and creating a nurturing environment for all children. Inclusivity and accessibility are key, ensuring that children from diverse backgrounds, including those with special needs, have equal opportunities. 🏫 The agreement also continues the commitment to affordability by maintaining or improving subsidies for families. Structural reforms aim to standardize administration across municipalities, supported by increased public funding for hiring qualified staff, upgrading facilities, and implementing new educational programs. 💪 While the goals are ambitious, there’s ongoing debate about whether the funding is sufficient and if the reforms will address the needs of all communities equally. 🗣️🤔 Nonetheless, Barnehageforliket 2.0 is a significant step forward in ensuring that every child in Norway has access to the best possible start. 👏 Did I get that right? #EarlyChildhoodEducation #InclusiveEducation #Norway #PolicyDebate #Arendalsuka

Islamic concept of Kafala While adoption is not strictly allowed under traditional Sharia, Malaysia has implemented legal frameworks that permit forms of guardianship and fostering that can be considered similar to adoption. Malaysia has a more developed adoption system compared to Bangladesh. In Malaysia, the Islamic concept of kafala offers a potential solution to the complex issue of balancing adherence to Islamic law with the best interests of child welfare. Kafala is an Islamic concept that involves taking care of an orphan or a child in need. It's distinct from Western adoption in that it doesn't sever the legal ties between the child and their biological family. Instead, it establishes a guardianship relationship where the kafil (guardian) assumes responsibility for the child's care, education, and well-being.

CHILDREN'S DAY / ÇOCUK BAYRAMI Children's Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honour of children, whose date of observance varies by country. İn 1925, İnternational Children's Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare (wikipedia.org). How important is Children's Day? The day serves as a reminder to protect and nurture children's innocence and potential, focusing on education, nutrition, and a secure environment. İt raises awareness about global challenges such as poverty and child labour. How important are children for the world? “The healthy development of children is crucial to the future well-being of any society” (www.unicef.org). Also, Children are important for the future because “when we are no longer here, the world will belong to them. Since children are the next generation and we are passing on a legacy to them whether for good or for ill. Therefore , we must give careful consideration to them, to the quality of that legacy on how we raise children and the values we instill in them (Orchard, 2024). But the reality of what we see today is that, the impact of war on children is tough, example; The impacts of War on Children - War disrupts the supply of necessities to children and their families like food, water, shelter, health services, and education. - Lack of access to these basic needs may deprive children of their physical, social-emotional, and psychological development (wikipedia.org). For more visuals related to this post you can visit here: https://lnkd.in/d7335B3X https://lnkd.in/dq-hRtdV In conclusion all children of the world should sleep happily and lovingly not in fear. Let's give peace a chance to reign and let's spread love, not war. Happy Children's Day 🌏🌎🌍
