This Foot Health Awareness Month, we’re going to #StandUp2bunions and end the stigma together! #Treace Medical Concepts, Inc. is proud to own and celebrate the first National Bunion Day here in the United States. At #Treace, we have a goal of advancing the standard of care for the surgical management of bunions and related midfoot deformities. Establishing National Bunion Day in the U.S. on the third Tuesday of April every year serves as an important opportunity to support broader awareness of bunions, their causes, and the importance of early intervention for this debilitating bone deformity. An NPR article was published last week to shed light on the stress that can occur for kids visiting a healthcare institution. ChildKind Advisory Board member Dr. Stefan Friedrichsdorf outlines the importance of integrating pain management strategies by using these simple steps that clinicians and parents can follow to improve a child's hospital experience: - Apply numbing cream, an over-the-counter lidocaine, 30 minutes before a shot. - Breastfeed babies or give them a pacifier dipped in sugar water, to comfort them while getting a shot. - Use distractions, like teddy bears, pinwheels, or bubbles, to divert attention away from the needle. - No more pinning kids down on an exam table. In ICU settings specifically, balancing the application of invasive or prolonged medical interventions with the patient's individual journey, unique situation and desired outcomes is crucial to avoid potentially unnecessary suffering.
