Today is "Star Wars" day. Personally, I posted my favorite scene from the fourth part of the cult science-fiction film saga “A New Hope,” in which young Luke Skywalker watches the sunset on the planet Tatooine. (Unofficially, this scene is called "Double Sunset on Tatooine") Why did I post this particular scene? When the first film of the famous franchise was released in 1977 - and it was the "A New Hope" episode - scientists laughed at this scene. In that distant year, science still knew nothing about exoplanets, i.e. about planets orbiting other stars. Scientists, however, purely theoretically, assumed the presence of planets around single sun-like stars, casting doubt on the presence of them in systems of double (and, moreover, larger multiplicity) stars. Scientists believed that it was impossible for stable planetary orbits to exist in binary star systems, since under the influence of gravitational forces the planet would either fall onto its mother star or be thrown out of its gravitational field. Only a few scientists assumed the possibility of stability of such systems, but in the presence of very strict restrictions on the orbital parameters. Currently, thanks to space telescopes, humanity has discovered thousands of exoplanets, including those that have circumbinary orbits, i.e. revolve around their two suns at once, which means they delight their possible inhabitants with beautiful double sunsets and sunrises (For example, Kepler-16 b). Such planets are unofficially called “tatooines” - after the name of that same fantastic planet, the double sunset on which scientists laughed so much. And now we laugh at their limitations, doubts, short-sightedness and lack of belief in the “impossible”. In our beautiful and limitless Universe, everything is possible! https://lnkd.in/dCFwFCya

The main purpose of the session was to capture the moons of Saturn and Jupiter with my DSLR, with the intention of stacking images. I set my DSLR to 300mm focal length, ISO 6400 and 2 seconds exposure, taking 10 images per target. I switched my attention to deep sky objects, as I happened to be outside and ready. First was the Pleiades (Seven Sisters). https://lnkd.in/eiykDcGT
