Some really good priorities here from Chartered Accountants Ireland. Sensible tax recommendations and glad to see the prioritisation of childcare. While progress has been made on the affordability of care, too many experienced and professional staff are leaving the workforce due to the lack of availability of spaces. The recent launch of the Building Blocks Expansion Grant by Pobal, fails miserably at supporting the creation of additional spaces, it is extremely limited in scope, costly for services to apply for ( requiring 2 independent valuations, build costings, and construction designs), and all with a submission deadline over the holiday season.

Its Manifesto Week and we've already seen some good commitments on early years from political parties. We were really pleased to see Labour commit to delivering a new early years workforce strategy in the first year - something our manifesto calls for. While Liberal Democrats proposed some policies that would make a significant difference to children and parents including tripling the Early Years Pupil Premium and extending parental leave and pay so parents can spend more time caring for their children in the early years. We're clear that any promises made at election time must be part of a much bigger early years strategy that has children at its heart, gives all types of providers the support they need to be sustainable and all parents the choice they want to manage work and parenting. Greater Rochester Chamber has identified childcare expansion as a key workforce development need to support the development of #GreaterROC.
