This week, we have two important wildlife days to recognize: #WorldLionDay2024 and #WorldElephantDay2024! Let's take a quick look at what the C4ADS Wildlife Seizure Dashboard can tell us about trends in the seizures of both wildlife categories. In our latest report, we used new data to show that the average weight of seized ivory shipments is steadily rising, an alarming trend that suggests increased trafficker confidence and more illicit ivory on the market. And that’s not all the Wildlife Seizure Dashboard can tell us — while seized elephant ivory shipments often adhere to established Africa-to-Asia trafficking routes, the hotspots for lion seizures are more diffuse: France, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa. Over 60 countries have been implicated in lion seizures between 2016 and 2023 alone. Whether you’re interested in exploring geographic, temporal, or transportation sector trends in wildlife trafficking, our Wildlife Seizure Dashboard is your free, go-to resource for enhancing your analysis. This #WorldWildlifeConservationDay we're looking back at a project aimed at understanding regional collaborative conservation activities for #WildlifeManagers in the Southeast! Wildlife management in the United States largely operates at the state and regional level, creating a system where #collaboration across geographic areas and agencies is often necessary to achieve conservation goals. This project addresses a primary gap in knowledge around the viability of regional responses to wildlife #conservation initiatives by surveying state agency leadership and field biologists from across the Southeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies’ (SEAFWA) states. The results have important implications for funding allocations to make these collaborations possible across states. Learn more: https://loom.ly/NQkNr0U
