Rest and relaxation is a must.
For 7 years my wife and I took our rest and relaxation in short spurts - mostly extended weekends together, never taking a full week off.
Sometimes we went to other cities, but many times we had mini stay-cations right on our back patio.
This year we made the decision to do a week long vacation away!
It’s been glorious and beautiful!
No matter how you do your R&R, make sure it fills your cup and is what you need.
For me, time away from the hustle and bustle is what I needed.
And of course spending undistracted time with the one I love!

The cost of overwork isn’t just burnout—it’s life itself.
Andrea Goeglein, PhD's newly released book, “Don’t Die with Vacation Time”, drives home a crucial message: taking breaks is essential, not optional. The recent The Wall Street Journal article on Bank of America’s workload policies tragically underscores this truth.
At Go Long, we see this every day. #Burnout isn’t just about feeling tired—it’s about losing touch with what truly matters, from your health to your happiness. We help clients reframe their approach to work and life, ensuring that their well-being is never sacrificed on the altar of productivity.
Your vacation days aren’t just perks—they’re lifelines. Whether it’s a full getaway or incorporating downtime in your life on a daily basis, these breaks are vital to maintaining a balanced, fulfilling life.
Andrea’s book reminds us that time off isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. If we fail to honor this, the consequences are far greater than a missed deadline—they’re missed opportunities for a life well-lived.
Let’s rethink how we approach work. Check out Andrea's book at the link below, and if burnout is already knocking on your door, let’s talk about how Go Long can help you reclaim your life.

Three evidence-based reasons you should take
a vacation and disconnect completely while away 🌴
.
.
1. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 😁 - two separate studies found that 85% of people who manage to disconnect while on vacation feel less stressed, more recharged, more relaxed and overall happier 😊.

2. 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 👨🎨 - studies have consistently shown that the act of disconnecting creates the "mind-wandering mode" which is essential for creative problem solving and ideation. 💡

3. 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 🏃♀️- a long-term study found that men who skipped vacation for 5 consecutive years or more had a 30% higher risk of heart disease 💔

First day of summer arrived and for some of us, have you noticed that it also came with a frantic desire for a vacation?
So when might a desire for a vacation turn from a normal need into a frantic one?
When we don’t give ourselves the space and time we need during the rest of the year.
Something I practise on a weekly basis is booking a ‘Spontaneous ME time’ in my schedule.
In my busy schedule filled with back to back commitments, I noticed how quickly I fall into the trap of constant doing and neglect being mindful and intentional.
The practice I found that had worked for me is scheduling a NO-PLAN time slot in my calendar. Yes, I repeat - I have absolutely nothing scheduled for about 3 hours every week. And what I do in this time?
Whatever I want in the moment. Being present with myself and engaging in an activity which will support my needs at that moment.
How often do you let yourself be spontaneous?
Finding balance starts with scheduling quality time for yourself. Amidst the chaos, remember to prioritize self-care and rejuvenation. Embrace solitude, recharge your soul, and rediscover the magic within. You deserve a date with yourself.

It's #InternationalSelfCareDay and it got me thinking about how #vacation is part of self-care – a part I think we sometimes forget about.
I know it's not a revolutionary realization, but it really struck me this year when I was on vacation with my family. I hadn't realized just how much I needed that time. For me, it boils down to three things:
1. #Disconnecting. I don't think I fully realized just how busy I've actually been, but once I stepped away from the phone, meetings and emails, I remembered what it's like to relax.
2. #Reconnecting. Away from work, you get to more fully focus on family and friends. Those are the times that deepen and reinforce the connections that give you strength.
3. #SelfCare. As much as I love my family and friends, it's also nice to have some time for myself, to #recharge and de-stress. #MentalHealth matters.
These are all things we know, but it's not until you wake up on that first day of being on vacation that we really remember how important vacation time is for us all.
Don't forget to take your vacation time! You've earned it.
