Researchers have devised a novel energy storage system to help the building sector achieve net zero by reducing reliance on traditional HVAC systems and fossil fuel-based systems.  Developed by Professor Yongliang LI, Chair in Thermal Energy Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, the storage system couples a chemical heat pump with microwave heating. It has a higher energy density than conventional battery packs and can produce heating or cooling on demand. The system is easily scalable to accommodate buildings of various sizes, from small offices to large commercial complexes, providing quicker and more effective heating or cooling that is not weather-dependent, significantly lowering building energy bills, and improving operational efficiency. Reducing or supplementing HVAC with this novel system reduces wear and tear on traditional heating and cooling infrastructure, decreasing maintenance costs and downtime. Moreover, the system stores and distributes thermal energy, enabling buildings to shift energy use to off-peak times and reducing reliance on grid electricity in high-demand periods.  Enquiries relating to partnerships should be directed to Jon R. at University of Birmingham Enterprise. 📢 Building Services Forum 2024: A Day of Learning and Collaboration on Decarbonisation 📅 The Building Services Forum (BSEE) was on a mission to demystify decarbonisation on Thursday 28th November, as it returned to the Building Centre London. 📍 We were honoured to join the sponsor line-up alongside BSEE Magazine and headline sponsor Mitsubishi Electric at this insightful one-day briefing, which explored practical low carbon heating and cooling solutions to support the UK's decarbonisation goals. 💡 Our Business Partnership Manager, Ian Butler, contributed to the technical programme with a presentation on "Underperformance in Refrigeration – a technical challenge," and participated in an enlightening panel debate where industry experts shared valuable perspectives on sector challenges. 🗨 We were grateful for the many engaging conversations at our tabletop stand in the breakout area, where we had the opportunity to discuss certification benefits with interested attendees. 👀 It was great to see several Eurovent certified manufacturers sharing their expertise, with excellent afternoon sessions from Mitsubishi Electric, Ideal Heating and S&P UK Ventilation Systems Ltd. 🙌 Our thanks go to the BSEE team for an extremely informative event. Our trade fair tour continues ! Today, we are meeting our clients and partners from the ventilation and recuperation industry at the Targi Instalacje trade fair in Poznań, a leading event in Poland's HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) industry. HVAC is one of the main consumers of our nanomaterials and photocatalytic engines. They enable the purification of air delivered to buildings through ventilation/recuperation systems with a significantly lower pressure drop (only 18pa at 300 m3/h) compared to other filter-based solutions. Importantly, from an ecological and budgetary perspective, they do not require the financial and installation costs associated with filter replacements. As a result, in offices, schools, public buildings, as well as in single-family homes and apartments, it is possible to breathe air free from exhaust fumes, smog, and other urban pollutants.
