Universität Rostock was delighted to welcome #EUCONEXUS colleagues from across Europe for an in-person meeting of the team working on all opportunities for #PhD students. The two-day meeting took place in the City of Rostock during the same time as the 2024 PhD Summer School.   The overarching theme of the meeting was how to better support researchers of the European University alliance and encourage cooperation to find solutions to many of the challenges included under the topic of Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability. The agenda included ➡ the PhD Summer School at La Rochelle University in 2025, ➡ the future of cotutelles and potential double degrees for PhDs, ➡ the upcoming EENVIRO Research Conference hosted by the UTCB from 29-31 October 2024, ➡ PhD Week & PhD Open Courses and ➡ further actions to boost doctoral research and cooperation.   Did you know EU-CONEXUS, the European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability, offered all these opportunities for PhD students and researchers? The Université Côte d'Azur (UniCA) IMAgein project has been awarded funding under the prestigious Erasmus Mundus program as part of the EMJM 2024 call for proposals! This innovative two-year international master's program in Ageing Biology will enhance the Ulysseus European University academic offer, providing high-quality, multidisciplinary training in the biology of aging. Starting in the 2025 academic year, this program will be delivered by a consortium of five leading European institutions: UniCA (France), Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), the Universität zu Köln (Germany), the Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal), and Sorbonne Universités (France). Over six years (2024-2030), the program will train the next generation of scientists, researchers, and professionals to address the challenges of aging populations. Each cohort will include 25 outstanding international students, with scholarships available through a competitive process. Supported by Ulysseus European University, research centers, and university hospitals, the IMAgein program emphasizes international mobility and professional development. This robust network ensures students gain advanced knowledge and skills through diverse partner institutions, preparing them to become leaders in aging biology research and industry. ETC 2024: Boost Your PhD Journey Association for European Transport (AET) #etcAntwerp2024 Strengthening the European community of PhD students: Discussion session Building academic networks and collaborating with peers are essential competences that researchers should develop from the early stages of their careers. This special session at the ETC 2024 is designed to foster interaction among PhD students, promoting collaboration. By offering a platform for the exchange of ideas, the session enables the rapid dissemination of doctoral agendas, followed by discussions on specific topics of interest. The format can be summarised as 'One pitch – One question – One idea'. First, the pre-appointed PhD student pitches their doctoral agenda using a single slide, outlining the main research questions, hypotheses, and methodology (3mins). Then, the speaker presents a challenge, that they are currently facing or anticipate encountering in the future, and would be interested to get insights from colleagues (2 mins). To facilitate this, the speaker poses a question to the audience. Finally, a pre-appointed colleague specialising in the same transport topic (Maritime/Inland, Road, Rail, Urban, Supply chain) is invited to propose an idea for addressing such a challenge (5 mins). More senior topic specialists and the remaining audience members are also invited to contribute ideas before the 10-minute slot concludes. Even prestigious institutions encounter hurdles, particularly with UGC registration, if historically, 50% of previous research lacks CTRI registration. This challenge significantly impacts the registration process for new PhD theses and is often overlooked in academia today.Avoid accepting a privately awarded PhD.
