Elder Abuse & Ageism: A Global and Local Perspective, which will be delivered in Dari/Pashto languages with PPP in English. Join an insightful seminar on Elder Abuse & Ageism with Dr. Amir Ansari on Saturday, Dec 7, 2024, at 8:00 PM Kabul time (GMT+4:30). This session, organized by the Afghanistan Public Health Alliance, aims to raise awareness and promote meaningful discussions on protecting the rights and dignity of older adults. Why It Matters: Globally, nearly 1 in 6 people aged 60 and older experience some form of abuse annually, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The issue is often underreported, with only 1 in 24 cases of elder abuse ever coming to light. This trend is deeply concerning as the global population of individuals aged 60+ is expected to double by 2050, reaching 2.1 billion. In Afghanistan, elders play a crucial role in family and societal structures, yet cultural stigma and lack of awareness exacerbate their vulnerability to abuse. Poverty, displacement, and limited healthcare services further heighten the risks. Accurate data on elder abuse in Afghanistan is limited, but anecdotal evidence points to rising concerns, particularly amidst ongoing economic and social challenges. Key Seminar Topics: • Drivers of elder abuse and ageism • Risk factors and intersectionality • Prevention strategies and interventions • Respecting and protecting older individuals Be part of this critical conversation and learn how we can collectively foster a society that respects and values older generations. Zoom Details: Meeting ID: 81879036441 Passcode: 194689 (The session will be recorded.) Let’s build a future where people of all ages live with dignity and respect. With Dr Amir Ansari

October is #SubstanceUsePreventionMonth At Community CareLink, we believe that addressing substance use goes beyond just treatment—it starts with prevention. As we observe Substance Use Prevention Month, it’s a time to shine a light on the critical role that communities, organizations, and individuals play in creating healthier, safer environments where everyone can thrive. Substance use affects not only individuals but also families, schools, and entire communities. By focusing on prevention, we can: 💡 Empower youth with the knowledge and resources to make healthier choices. 💡 Provide families with the support needed to foster open, honest communication. 💡 Equip organizations with the tools to build stronger, more resilient communities. We are proud to partner with local agencies and community programs to help them operationalize grant opportunities and initiatives that make a real difference in preventing substance use. #SubstanceUsePreventionMonth #CommunityImpact #PreventionFirst #CommunityCareLink #HealthyFutures

INDIVIDUAL FOCUS! Implementing targeted programs and interventions is pivotal in community corrections. These initiatives are not one-size-fits-all; instead, they are tailored to address the unique circumstances of each offender. Whether it's substance abuse treatment, vocational training, or cognitive-behavioral therapy, these interventions must align with the individual's risk factors and needs. #Treatment #Colorado #Program #PublicService #Recovery #Recovering #RealRecovery #AA #SubstanceAbuse #SelfImprovement #Wellness #Prevention #Health #Probation #Motivation #Prevention #Health #treatmentcenter #clientsuccess #communitysuccess #advantagetreatementcenters #enhancedrecovery #socialwork #RelapsePrevention #residentialProgram #RoadToRecovery #workingtogether

A new University of Michigan report highlights the success of Michigan's Healthy Moms Healthy Babies pilot program in improving financial security, housing stability, and health outcomes for families. Families in the program were 43% less likely to lose essential utilities and 25% less likely to experience homelessness. The initiative, funded for statewide expansion, also narrowed racial disparities in care satisfaction. A partnership between U-M's Youth Policy Lab and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, this program proves that investing in home visiting services can create lasting, life-changing impacts. #HealthForAll #UMichResearch #MaternalHealth Learn more: myumi.ch/1bWjy

If we don't tackle the root causes of violence, the trend of children becoming perpetrators will persist. Our country has made significant progress in establishing policies like the National Strategic Plan for gender-based violence and the Comprehensive National Prevention Strategy. However, a gap in coordinating prevention efforts has led to a rise in children involved in violence, including sexual violence. To break this cycle, we must focus on key programs: - Engage traditional leaders, churches, and institutions to shift harmful societal norms perpetuating violence. - Encourage parents, caregivers, and communities to model peaceful conflict resolution. - Enhance tertiary prevention and broaden access to psycho-social services for healing and trauma support in community health centers and schools. - Innovate prevention initiatives while considering diverse contexts. Addressing violence demands a holistic approach involving all levels of society. #ViolencePrevention #CommunitySupport #ChildProtection
