We recently had an opportunity to give a presentation at the 55th Annual Scientific Congress of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). Thomas Thom delivered a 45 minute talk to Practice Managers and Ophthalmologists who had travelled from around Australia and New Zealand 🇦🇺 🇳🇿 The presentation covered LGBTIQA+ communities and featured: ✅ Current and appropriate terminology ✅ Correct use of pronouns ✅ The impacts of historical and current discrimination ✅ Tips on how to engage effectively in order to provide inclusive services. The presentation was very well received and it was pleasure to be included in such an impressive lineup of speakers. Thanks for having us RANZCO 👏 You can learn more about this and other training sessions that we provide here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gJ6wz8em #RANZCO55th #Ophthalmology #InclusionMatters #LGBTIQA #DiversityTraining #CulturalCompetence #CatalystFoundation

This month, we’d like to reflect on the significance of AANHPI Heritage Month. The rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and resilience that define the AANHPI experience in the United States is truly remarkable. Let's celebrate the diversity within the AANHPI community and recognize the unique histories, values, and challenges that each ethnicity brings. Despite the obstacles faced, progress is being made in addressing the healthcare needs of AANHPI populations. From data disaggregation to cultural competency training, efforts are underway to improve healthcare access and understanding for AANHPI individuals. At ConcertAI, Initiatives like ERACE are leading the way in uncovering and addressing disparities in cancer care for underserved populations, including AANHPI communities. As we honor AANHPI Heritage Month, let's reaffirm our commitment to achieving health equity for all. Let's celebrate the diverse tapestry of AANHPI experiences and work towards a future where healthcare is inclusive and supportive for all. World FSHD Day: Reflecting on Progress and Hope Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) may be a mouthful, but for our family living with it, it is a daily reality. Today, on World FSHD Day, we join the global FSHD community in raising awareness and celebrating progress. Here is what I have observed over the past 20+ years since my daughter’s clinical diagnosis: - FSHD Society Expansion: The FSHD Society has grown, championing research, advocacy, and support for patients and caregivers. - Clinical Trials: From less than 25 to nearly 75, clinical trials for FSHD have multiplied, offering hope for effective treatments. - Connecting with Others: I have met caregivers, patients, and colleagues impacted by FSHD. Their dedication fuels our collective fight. - Physicians in the Community: Some of my colleagues, physicians themselves, live with FSHD, emphasizing the urgency for solutions. - Sponsors’ Commitment: Executives and employees of FSHD sponsors demonstrate unwavering commitment to patients. In 2014, I predicted a disease-modifying treatment for FSHD by 2025. While my timing may have been optimistic, late-stage candidates in the pipeline give us hope. Let us continue working together for a brighter FSHD future! #FSHD #FSHDDay #TheFSHDSociety #SyneosHealth #FacioscapulohumeralMuscularDystrophy

"Multimedia can be a helpful tool to solidify informed consent practices from beginning to end. Tavana’s research teams create videos that outline a research project’s objectives and requirements and emphasize subjects’ right to withdraw at any time. All materials are available in every Pacific Island language, making them more accessible and inclusive." Kudos to Justina Tavana of Brigham Young University for leveraging video and translations in #informedconsent, improving #patientcomprehension, and involving people from Samoan and Pacific Islander communities in their #Alzheimer's research. #Diversity #ClinicalResearch #ClinicalTrials #eConsent https://lnkd.in/eqjAk86n

As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s time to shine a light on the underrepresentation of Hispanic/Latino individuals in clinical research. Despite making up 19% of the U.S. population, only 11% of clinical trial participants come from Hispanic communities. In our latest blog post, we explore the critical need for greater representation in clinical research and how PEP!IN is working to make this change happen. Read the full blog here: https://wix.to/RckMTCd Let’s work together to create more equitable clinical trials. Greetings from sunny Spain! 👋 Yesterday, my co-founder and the chief doctor of Sequoia: Men’s Sexual Wellness, Olya, and I arrived in Madrid. 🇪🇸 You might be wondering, what are we doing here? We are continuing our series of trips to conferences. This time, we are participating in the 5th International Consultation on Sexual Medicine(ICSM), organized by the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM). Notably, this time we are here not as attendees but as partners. I should remind you that I am a member of this association and managed to arrange for us to set up our booth. Our goal is to introduce Sequoia to as many people as possible. Usually, when we attend as listeners, we can communicate with 20–30 people per day. Based on our experience in Munich, we realized that with a booth, this number can be increased 4–5 times. We brought with us two beautiful and familiar banners. Over the next two days, we will be introducing event participants to Sequoia, distributing stickers and sticker packs, and collecting contacts of doctors for future collaboration. I will update you on the results in a couple of days. #SexualHealth #SequoiaPower #SexualMedicine #SequoiaHealth #ICSM2024 #ICSM24 #ISSM #MadridConference #HealthInnovation
