Catalyze has had an awesome 2024 with growth and change and resounding success, hitting targets and expanding Africa’s reach worldwide! Our team has supported programs in-person in 16 international cities, immersed ourselves in 30+ trade fairs, including; exhibitions, conferences, and B2B Matchmaking programs, and created meaningful connections across the globe. This year, we expanded on our programs with more informal networking opportunities such as city tours, unique cultural experiences, and industry-relevant site visits that go beyond the boardroom, helping exporters connect and collaborate in fresh, exciting ways before diving into their formal engagements. Our team has grown to over 10 strong, with new partnerships and representatives in key markets, we’re now more hands-on, present, and ready to make an impact—wherever in the world we go. We haven’t just been supporting African businesses at international events; we’ve been sourcing and connecting, developing our global buyer network which is eager to get deeper into the amazing opportunities Africa has to offer. As many trade professionals will appreciate there is a lot of jargon, acronyms, and "consultant speak" in the international trade promotion industry. Here is one that I absolutely love: "TIPO". Lots of talk about "accessing global supply chains", "leveraging market insights", "understanding business etiquette" and of course everyone needs a "market-entry strategy". Finally, let’s talk about the main point – efficiency. You are always having to evaluate the efficiency of your visit or participation. And never trust the marketing people who are trying to explain to you that the trade fair process is the result already. Of course, it depends on the goals you were setting before for this action. So, you have to start the analytic process before you participate in the trade show. 1. Analyze the efficiency of previous fairs a. Cost per contact b. Cost per lead; c. Cost per sale; d. ROI and so on. 2. Set trade fair marketing goals based on previous experience: amount of contacts, leads, deals; cost per contact, lead, deal) 3. Agree the KPI-s and measurements for every team member on the fair/booth After the trade fair, you have to evaluate: - % of visitors in our booth - Amount of contacts - Cost per contact - Cost per lead - Cost per purchase - Did the company over/underspend? - Did they win because of the export consultant? If you are not satisfied with your results – go through a small list of main mistakes and try to analyze and fix the problem for the next fair. 1. Unclear goals 2. The target group was not visiting 3. Bad location 4. Inefficient booth 5. Passive staff 6. The company is not working with the contacts after the fair 7. Ignoring competitors 8. Company not recognized 9. Weak administration 10. Bad conditions for staff 11.
