The journey of 28 years of First Nation Land Management is a story of adoption from coast-to-coast. The first 69 communities to pass a land codes were from Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. The 70th vote came on March 2nd, 2017 in Quebec, becoming the 5th province with a community operating under their own land-based jurisdiction. We have watched as communities from nine provinces and one territory have learned about the opportunity and chosen to restore jurisdiction over their lands!

Sunday Morning Thoughts: "To assess the scale of Alberta's municipal landscape, one need only look at neighbouring provinces. Saskatchewan, with a population of 1.2 million residents, is represented by 767 municipalities. Meanwhile, Manitoba, with a slightly larger population of 1.3 million, operates with only 137 municipalities." Click on the link below to read the entire article. OPINION: How many municipalities is too many? While (McIver) expressed reluctance to advocate for the dissolution of municipalities, he acknowledged the significance of the issue. He remarked, “With 330 municipalities in Alberta and a population of 4.5 million, that’s a lot of municipalities compared to what we might have. But on the other hand, who am I to tell other people how to spend their money? If they want to pay for their own mayor, reeve, and council in their municipality.” https://wix.to/X49jZ91 #AlbertaMunicipalities #Alberta #Editorial #Amalgamation

The City of Nelson, Halifax Regional Municipality, and EPCOR are leading the way in Canada when it comes to innovative approaches to natural infrastructure—benefiting their municipalities, the environment, and providing economic advantages. Regardless of size, municipalities can develop solutions and successfully work with nature to meet infrastructure needs. The way to the solutions may vary, but these jurisdictions provide multiple examples of models for other cities, showcasing effective policy changes in different administrative, jurisdictional, and geographic settings.
